In their own words
Remote Process Explorer
Remote Process Explorer manages and monitors processes on local and remote Windows computers in real time. It can stop processes, start new ones, change priorities, and shut down or restart remote computers. Process details include process and parent IDs, CPU and memory use, priority, handles and threads, with running processes displayed as a tree. Computer management features include groups, on/off status, automatic list refresh, an Add Computers Wizard and separate accounts for each computer. The maker says remote computers need no additional software because the program uses built-in operating system functions. It can be downloaded and run on a user's own network without registration. The free Personal License is for non-commercial use on one computer and excludes support and maintenance. The Business License costs $149.95 as a one-time purchase for one machine; the Corporate License costs $2,999.95 as a one-time purchase for unlimited installations within one organization. Paid licenses are perpetual and include one year of updates and support, with optional renewal afterward. Listed platforms include Windows 10, 11 and several Windows Server versions through 2025.
runit
runit is a free Unix init scheme that supervises services and can replace sysvinit or other init schemes. It runs on GNU/Linux, BSD systems, MacOSX and Solaris, and can be adapted to other Unix operating systems. As process 1, it manages boot, normal operation and shutdown in three stages. The runsv component launches a service's run program and restarts it if it exits; an optional finish program and log service can also be used. The sv utility reports status and provides controls to start, stop, restart, pause or signal supervised services. For logs, svlogd can filter messages and write automatically rotated logs. The chpst utility changes process state and sets limits for resources such as memory, open files, process count, output size, core size and CPU time. runsvdir can start and monitor runsv processes for up to 1,000 service subdirectories. runit can supervise services alongside an existing init scheme without replacing it. The maker provides source and installation instructions, including manual installation without root access. Its documentation warns that UDP logging is unreliable and should be confined to private networks.
