Overview

Start with bitmap or vector artwork, or browse more than a million Unsplash photos inside Repper. The app builds a repeat from that source, then lets you adjust color and effects, preview the design on products, and export it as JPEG, PNG, or SVG/vector. That makes Repper useful for moving from image to pattern in one place, rather than only arranging a repeat manually.

Repper has been online since 2008, and its maker says a desktop app followed in 2009. Its current desktop and tablet workspace runs in a browser, while phone users get a separate mobile web app.

Key features

Tilings, color, and effects

More than 30 geometric tilings cover rectangular grids, facade arrangements, classic wallpaper groups, Penrose patterns, and other symmetry-based repeats. The breadth is a real advantage when a standard grid would not suit the source image. Colorway controls and effects—including duotone, black-and-white, gradient, halftone, and Metamorphosis—offer several ways to reshape its appearance without changing the source.

Product previews and output

3D mockups include t-shirts, dresses, pillows, scarves, notebooks, and fabric. They help assess a pattern in product contexts before export, though they are previews rather than a substitute for a dedicated production workflow. Pro exports reach 35k × 35k pixels and include JPEG, PNG, and SVG/vector options, a useful range for both raster and vector work.

Commercial use and support

Repper says users can use and sell their creations commercially without restrictions, and retain those rights after cancelling. That makes the subscription less consequential for ownership of finished work. Support is by email and help centre, with replies from a person typically within a day.

Pricing

Repper has a free mobile plan and a 14-day trial. Repper Mobile costs 0.00 USD per free and provides the phone web app, but image uploads are limited to the first two weeks and exports are simplified. It is suitable for trying the mobile workspace, not for users who need the full desktop feature set or dependable ongoing uploads.

Pro Monthly costs 12.99 USD per month, with taxes included. It adds an unlimited commercial license, bitmap and vector support, exports up to 35k × 35k pixels, 3D preview and export, unlimited collections, and automatic sync and backup. This is the straightforward option for regular use; the recurring price buys the full-size export and account features absent from the free mobile plan.

Pro Yearly offers 12 months for the price of 9, a 25% saving, with the same listed Pro features. It has custom pricing. Choose it if you expect to use Repper for a year and want the advertised discount; the monthly plan avoids that longer commitment.

Platforms

The desktop and tablet app runs in a browser without installation and automatically syncs and backs up work to the user account. Repper Mobile also runs in a browser on iOS and Android, with no app-store download. The important catch is that mobile and desktop are separate applications: designs cannot currently be accessed across them. Mobile is therefore a poor companion workspace for someone expecting to continue the same design on a desktop.

Repper's privacy policy says personal data is stored on Google Cloud in the European Union and identifies Firebase as a service host. The policy was last modified on 23 September 2019.

Who it's for

Repper is best suited to designers who want to turn bitmap or vector sources into varied seamless repeats, iterate on color and effects, and inspect the result on product mockups. It is less suitable for someone whose workflow depends on carrying designs between phone and desktop, or who needs unrestricted uploads and full export options without paying.

Pros and cons

Pros: More than 30 tilings, including Penrose and wallpaper-group styles, allow substantially more than a basic grid repeat.
Pros: Bitmap and vector inputs, Unsplash browsing, color tools, effects, previews, and three export formats cover a broad image-to-pattern workflow.
Pros: Pro includes high-resolution exports and unrestricted commercial rights, which suit work intended for sale.
Cons: Mobile and desktop designs do not sync across their separate apps, interrupting cross-device workflows.
Cons: The free mobile plan limits uploads to the first two weeks and simplifies exports, so it is not a full ongoing free tier.
Cons: The yearly plan's advertised discount comes with custom pricing rather than a stated total.

Alternatives

ArahWeave is a free option for weaving CAD/CAM work on Linux, macOS, or Windows; its demo cannot save projects. For AI-generated pattern exploration, Raspberry AI Prints & Patterns has a free tier with 50 one-time credits and an Individual plan at 49.00 USD per month. Loocie Design is a free web-based studio during beta, with files auto-deleting after a short time and tools subject to change.

Texloom Studio offers a free tier with 100 starting credits and 27 free tool pages without signup, making it worth considering if a credit-based tool collection fits better. JUMI PatternMaker is a free web option with no signup or subscription, no watermark, and SVG and PNG exports up to 8000px for personal and commercial use. Textile Designer AI has paid plans and supports web, API, macOS, and Windows access. Artlandia SymmetryWorks is a paid extension for macOS and Windows, with student and full versions sold as one-time purchases. TUKA3D is a Windows-only paid option with a free trial and hardware requirements that include 32GB DDR5 RAM or more and an Nvidia RTX 5060 or better.

Verdict

Choose Repper if you need a browser-based way to turn bitmap or vector imagery into varied seamless repeats, with product previews and commercial rights included in Pro. Its strongest case is the combination of tiling variety and a complete image-to-export workflow. Look elsewhere if you need one design workspace across phone and desktop, or a genuinely unrestricted free plan.
