Overview

Everyone works on the same board in real time, whether joining from a phone, tablet, laptop or desktop. That makes RetroStack a practical option for meetings with participants spread across devices and locations. Six ready-made formats provide a starting point, while custom boards accommodate teams with a process of their own.

Anonymous participants get the same feature set as registered users, and a board can be started without an account. That lowers the barrier for occasional contributors and suits sessions where people prefer not to attach their names to feedback. Email/password, Google and Apple sign-in are also supported.

Key features

Facilitators can assign 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 votes per section, or leave voting unlimited. The range supports both focused prioritization and open discussion, though potential per-session vote limits may constrain teams running many sessions. Action tracking helps carry decisions forward.

AI analysis can identify sentiment and themes, generate action items and produce meeting recaps. These outputs can help turn discussion into follow-up, but using them sends content through OpenAI for the requested analysis. RetroStack says it does not use user content to train AI models. Boards can also be exported as PDF or JSON and shared via private links.

RetroStack says data is encrypted in transit and at rest, with access controls, authentication requirements and security-incident monitoring. It uses Firebase and Google Cloud for storage and analytics. Technical support is by email, with a stated response time within 24 hours.

Pricing

The Free plan is free and requires no sign-up. It includes web, iOS, Android and Mac access, retro templates, anonymous feedback and action tracking. That makes it a strong fit for teams wanting to run sessions without a paid commitment or account setup.

The trade-off is that RetroStack may limit board creation, notes per section, votes per session and AI analysis requests per day. Teams relying on frequent boards or regular AI summaries should account for those possible caps before making it their routine meeting hub.

Platforms

RetroStack runs on Android, iOS, macOS and the web. Its live shared-board approach is suited to mixed-device groups, rather than teams limited to one desktop platform.

Who it's for

Agile, remote and distributed teams running retrospectives, planning, brainstorming or decision-making meetings are the natural audience. It is especially compelling when anonymous participation and low-friction access matter. Teams needing predictable high-volume usage may prefer a service with limits that better match their workload.

Pros and cons

Pro: No account is needed to start a board, and anonymous users retain the full feature set, reducing friction for guests and candid feedback.
Pro: Live collaboration spans phones, tablets and computers, with six templates and custom boards for different meeting formats.
Pro: PDF and JSON exports, private links and action tracking help preserve outcomes beyond the live session.
Con: Possible caps on boards, notes, votes and daily AI requests make sustained or high-volume use less predictable.
Con: AI analysis involves processing through OpenAI, which may not suit teams that prefer not to send meeting content to that service.

Alternatives

Retrospective Software is a useful place to compare more options for this category.

Echometer may suit teams that want Linux and Windows support alongside web and macOS, with a free Starter plan covering one team, 25 workspace members and unlimited retro guests, but only one retro per month after its trial and an archive of two retros per team.
Neatro is worth considering for web-only teams seeking a free plan with up to 10 members, unlimited retrospectives and radars, and more than 70 templates.
ScatterSpoke may appeal to teams interested in API access and its free plan's static surveys, Agent Surveys, Ask credits and basic signal detection; the plan is limited to one seat.
FocusRetro offers a free web Starter plan with three personal boards per month, core templates, voting, reactions, phase timers and action items, making it an option for individuals with modest board needs.
Retrospected is an alternative for teams considering self-hosting; its free Basic plan includes unlimited retrospectives, customization, Giphy integration, anonymous accounts and 40 posts.
RetroTool is another option for teams comparing retrospective tools.
Team O'clock may fit teams willing to pay per active member for its Growth plan, which starts at 10 monthly active members and includes retrospective activities, unlimited activity history, team metrics and meeting features.
EasyRetro is another web-based alternative to consider.

Verdict

Choose RetroStack if your team wants a free, cross-device space for collaborative retrospectives and workshops, especially when account-free anonymous input matters. Its combination of configurable voting, exports and AI-generated outputs is useful, but teams with frequent sessions or concerns about sending content to OpenAI should look elsewhere.
