In their own words

RPGMaker Save Editor

RPGMaker Save Editor (RMSE) is a free, open-source tool for editing save files from RPG Maker MV and MZ. The application runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, with a Node.js backend and Electron graphical interface. A save can be opened by dragging it from a file browser or choosing it in a file dialog. RMSE edits items, armor, and weapons, and lets users add inventory entries from a dropdown. Character edits are limited to characters in the active party. For values the app does not interpret, including data from custom plugins, users can export the save as raw JSON, make manual changes, and load it again. Before a save is overwritten, RMSE creates a backup and keeps the five newest copies in a `.rmse_backups` folder beside the save files. Save files themselves must stay inside the game directory; exported JSON can be stored anywhere. The project warns that edits to internal variables and switches can damage a save, so backups are advised. The repository has an Apache-2.0 license but no packaged releases. Documented setup requires cloning the repository, installing dependencies with npm, and running `npm start`. Support for older RPG Maker versions is not planned.

SaveEditor.net

SaveEditor.net is a free web-based tool for editing game save files, with current support for RPG Maker MV/MZ. Users upload a file, make changes in the browser, then download it for the game’s save folder; no software installation is required. The RPG Maker editor accepts .rpgsave, .save, and .json files, and can identify formats encrypted with some plugins. The homepage also claims support for RPG Maker, RenPy, and more, while the site says it currently supports RPG Maker MV/MZ and is working to add other formats. Instructions cover save locations for Windows, Steam, and Android through JoiPlay. The editor advises making a copy of the original before editing. Its privacy policy says uploaded saves are handled in temporary server RAM and wiped after processing or download, with no copies retained. The terms warn that save corruption or lost progress is the user’s responsibility and say the utility is unofficial and not endorsed by game developers or publishers. The maker describes the tools as intended for single-player game saves.
