In their own words
Sessionwire
Sessionwire is a remote audio collaboration platform for recording, mixing, mastering, and music education workflows. It streams uncompressed stereo audio at 48kHz, with automute and zero-latency local monitoring. Sessions can include HD multi-party video, screen sharing, remote desktop control, and recording video and voice to disk. Encrypted peer-to-peer file transfer sends files directly between computers rather than through a cloud server. Its free Plugin Suite, in AAX, VST3, and AU formats, streams a DAW session’s mix, plugins, and signal chain into Sessionwire. Guests can join using Chrome, Brave, or Edge without a plugin, app, signup, or download. Hosting requires one of those browsers, macOS 12 or later or Windows 10 64-bit or later, and at least 5 Mbps upload and download. The Free plan includes unlimited connections, guest audio/video/file transfer, SessionChat, and the Plugin Suite. Basic costs $12.99 per month; Studio costs $29.99 per month and includes up to 50 people, session recording, unlimited file size, and a 100GB Vault. A 14-day trial is available.
Soundtrap
Soundtrap is a cloud-based digital audio workstation for creating music and podcasts, available in a browser and on Windows, macOS, iOS and Android. The studio includes vocal and mixing tools, virtual instruments, a MIDI editor, and royalty-free loops and samples. Users can edit multitrack projects, sequence MIDI and use noise reduction. Collaboration includes real-time video and chat, comments on shared projects and autosave. Soundtrap says its library has up to 24,000+ loops and hundreds of presets, with new sound packs added every two weeks. A free account allows users to create and save projects and use selected free loops, instruments, drum kits and studio tools; some sounds and features require a paid plan. Soundtrap for Education is designed for students and teachers, and integrates with services including Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, Canvas and Schoology. Educators can try it free for 30 days without providing payment details upfront. Browser support includes current Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari, though some audio features may not work fully in every browser and operating system, and recording may have higher latency. Mobile apps do not include automation or MIDI input.
