Shotcut

Shotcut is a free, open-source desktop video editor for Linux, macOS, and Windows. It edits directly on a timeline without an import step, supports multitrack projects, and allows mixed resolutions and frame rates. Shotcut lists 4K and 8K support, with audio and video formats handled through FFmpeg and image formats including AVIF, BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, SVG, TIFF, and WebP. Tools include audio mixing, automatic ducking, video compositing, color grading, speed ramping, and object motion tracking. The editor lists Frei0r generators, Glaxnimate animation editing, and VST2 and LV2 audio plugins marked work-in-progress. Webcam and Blackmagic Design SDI or HDMI capture are supported, along with hardware-accelerated decoding, scaling, and encoding. Minimum memory is 4 GB for SD, 8 GB for HD, and 16 GB for 4K. Shotcut says it collects no personal information or usage activity and requires no network activation. GPLv3 licensing permits commercial use. The listed plan costs nothing.

Vizard

Vizard turns long-form videos into short clips for social channels. Its AI finds engaging moments, cuts clips, and reframes subjects for vertical video. The editor includes text-based trimming, timeline editing, aspect-ratio changes, caption translation, brand templates, and link sharing. Vizard says captions can be translated into more than 100 languages. Users can connect TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, Instagram, and Facebook Pages for publishing. The free plan costs nothing and includes 60 monthly credits, one social account, uploads up to 60 minutes and 1GB, exports up to 720p and 10 minutes, and three-day storage. Vizard is listed for Android, web, and API, but API access is for paid users and API submissions consume video upload minutes. API documentation lists limits of 600 minutes per video, 10GB, and 4K resolution. Vizard says videos are stored on AWS servers in California with AES-256 encryption, and customer data is not used to train its models.
