In their own words
SmartGit
SmartGit is a graphical Git client for Windows, macOS, and Linux, covering work from cloning through deployment. Users can clone repositories from GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps. Its tools include visual history, conflict resolution, pull requests, Git Flow, cherry-pick, Git LFS, interactive rebase, and drag-and-drop. It also supports large files, file locking, submodules, and offline mode. Eligible users can register for a free license for personal, non-commercial use, while separate free-use options are listed for students and employees of public educational institutions and qualifying non-commercial projects; those options have eligibility requirements. The hobby license excludes enterprise integrations, which cover self-hosted GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and Azure DevOps features. Commercial licensing starts at $5 a month, and perpetual licenses are also available. Each user may use a license on up to five physical or virtual machines. Support is by email, usually on workdays from 9 AM to 5 PM CET/CEST; phone support is not offered.
Working Copy
Working Copy is a Git client for iOS that can clone repositories, edit files, commit changes, and push them to remote repositories. It supports working offline: users can commit without a connection and push once the device is online again. Hosting support includes GitHub, Bitbucket, GitLab, and other providers; a repository URL can also be used when a provider is not specifically supported. Shortcuts actions cover reading and writing repository files, committing, pulling, pushing, and syncing. The client can work with external editors including Textastic, iA Writer, Ulysses, and 1Writer, and it supports creating pull requests for Bitbucket, GitHub, and GitLab. PGP commit signing is free; SSH signing is a Pro feature for users who purchased or upgraded on January 19, 2022 or later. Filesystem encryption keeps repositories available only while the device is unlocked. AI commit-message suggestions send staged differences to OpenAI, and the guide advises against using them with sensitive repositories. The Resolve tool cannot combine conflicted images or other binary files, so users must choose one version. The Free plan costs nothing and allows 5 repositories. A 10-day trial is available. Students can access all features free through the GitHub Education Pack.
