In their own words
Spine
Spine is a 2D animation tool focused on making animations for games, with an editor and runtimes for using the results in games. It builds skeletal or cutout animation by attaching images to bones and animating those bones. Rigging and animation tools include inverse kinematics, paths, skins, meshes, free-form deformation, weights, a dopesheet, a graph editor, and runtime preview. Exports include JSON and binary animation data, animated GIFs, PNG or JPEG image sequences, AVI or QuickTime video, and texture atlases or spritesheets. Official runtimes support Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, iOS, Android, Flutter, Phaser, PixiJS, and libgdx; generic runtimes are also listed for C, C++, C#, Haxe, and TypeScript. Spine runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its free trial includes Professional features but cannot save projects, pack textures, or export animation data, images, or video. Essential is listed at $99 a month; Professional is $449 a month.
SpriteBrew
SpriteBrew is a web tool for making pixel art characters and animated sprite sheets from text descriptions or uploaded artwork. Its maker describes 21 visual styles across five categories. Users can also upload their own pixel art to create frame-based actions such as walks, attacks, idles, and jumps. Character detection uses contours, so a sprite sheet does not need a grid layout. The editor includes a pencil, eraser, eyedropper, undo and redo, with editing up to 16× zoom. Exports include TexturePacker, Aseprite, GameMaker, RPG Maker, Godot, and raw frames; exported sheets are supported by Unity, Godot, GameMaker, and RPG Maker. Editing tools work without an account, but AI generation requires sign-up. Free accounts have lifetime caps of 10 Pro or 30 Fast generations. The free plan lists 5 starting tokens, daily login and streak tokens, and a newsletter signup bonus. Paid token plans start at $4.99, paid once. Users own generated sprites and may use them commercially. The privacy policy says generated images are not stored on SpriteBrew servers and user data is not used to train AI models.
