In their own words
Stata
Stata is a locally installed desktop platform for data management, exploration, visualization, statistical analysis, reporting, and reproducible research. Its methods include regression, time-series, panel-data, survival, causal inference, Bayesian analysis, and machine learning. Data import options include Excel, CSV and delimited text, SAS, SPSS, Parquet, dBase, SQL databases via JDBC or ODBC, FRED, and Haver. Stata also supports Python, Jupyter Notebook, Java, and other integrations. Reports can be exported to Word, Excel, PDF, HTML, and Markdown, while graphs can be exported to EPS, PNG, PDF, SVG, or TIFF. It runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows; it is not SaaS. Prof+ annual license prices start at $175 a year and require eligibility as faculty or staff at an accredited, degree-granting university, with proof of affiliation. Instructors can request a free one-week license, and eligible instructors can request a free six-month Stata/BE license for undergraduate classes. The platform states it has no extra modules or hidden costs.
StatPlus
StatPlus provides statistical analysis and graphing tools for work in finance, biostatistics, economics, healthcare, and clinical research. Its methods include descriptive statistics, ANOVA, multivariate and nonparametric analysis, regression, time series, and survival analysis. It supports statistical tests and regression models, but not scripting or Bayesian analysis. The Windows standalone version reads text, XLS, XLSX, and SPSS files and includes the StatFi Excel add-in. StatPlus:mac works with Excel for Mac and Apple Numbers; version 7 also includes a standalone spreadsheet that does not require either, and supports Excel, ODS, and text documents. The Mac app works offline, with internet access only needed for optional updates. AnalystSoft describes StatPlus:mac LE as a free edition of StatPlus:mac Professional. Platforms listed are iOS, macOS, web, and Windows, with both deployment options. Listed single-license commercial prices are $160.00 once for Windows and $195.00 once for macOS; student and academic/non-profit licenses are also listed. The maker describes the license as permanent and says major upgrades are included during the maintenance period.
