Overview

SurveyMonkey is a survey platform for building questionnaires, collecting responses and analyzing results. It suits individuals running short surveys as well as organizations that need team administration or a wider respondent pool. Its range of plans is useful, but response ceilings and overage charges make choosing the right tier essential.

Key features

Logic branching and custom branding give survey owners ways to tailor a questionnaire and present it consistently. The platform offers more than 400 templates on its homepage and 500+ expert templates in feature details, which can help users get started without building every survey from scratch. Free users can create unlimited surveys, but each is limited to 10 questions and responses are capped, making the plan a poor fit for longer or dependable high-volume collection.

Response analytics help users review submissions. SurveyMonkey Audience can reach more than 335 million people across 130+ countries, a useful option when an organization needs respondents beyond its own contacts. Surveys can also accept payments through Stripe or PayPal, extending their use to paid registrations or similar transactions.

Free iOS and Android apps support survey creation and checking the latest results. Each user can register up to two devices at a time. API access supports connecting survey workflows to other software. The Enterprise plan adds Zoom integration, enhanced governance and security, SSO and regional data centers.

Pricing

The Basic plan is free and supports simple surveys, forms and quizzes, with unlimited surveys but only 10 questions per survey and limited responses. It is best for short, low-volume work. Advantage Annual costs 39.00 USD per year, billed $468 annually, and includes 15,000 responses per year; Premier Annual costs 139.00 USD per year, billed $1,668 annually, and includes 40,000 responses per year. These individual paid tiers make more sense when the free cap is too restrictive, but response needs should be checked against each annual allowance.

Team Advantage costs ₹1,550 per user per month, starting at 3 users and billed annually; it includes 50,000 responses per year. Team Premier costs ₹3,800 per user per month, also starting at 3 users and billed annually, and includes 100,000 responses per year. Both team plans include shared assets, user roles, permissions and consolidated billing. Team Premier adds phone support. The stated Team Advantage and Team Premier USD-per-year figures are 30.00 USD per year and 92.00 USD per year respectively, while the listed billing terms and prices are in rupees per user per month.

Enterprise requires 5+ users, has custom pricing and a custom response limit; it is aimed at organizations needing enterprise security and Customer Success access. Paid plans charge ₹5.00 for each response beyond the response limit. Auto-renew is enabled by default but can be turned off; doing so downgrades the account to free at the end of the billing cycle. Check the applicable allowance and renewal setting before committing.

Platforms

SurveyMonkey lists Android, iOS and API access. Its free mobile apps support survey creation and checking recent results.

Who it's for

SurveyMonkey is a strong fit for organizations that need branded, branching surveys, response analysis or access to a broad respondent panel. Individuals with occasional short questionnaires can start on Basic; teams that need shared administration can consider a team plan. It is less suitable when response volume is difficult to forecast, since paid overages cost extra, or when a team cannot meet the three-user minimum.

Pros and cons

Pros: Logic branching, custom branding, analytics and a large Audience panel support varied research needs.
Pros: Team plans provide shared assets, roles, permissions and consolidated billing; Enterprise adds SSO and regional data centers.
Cons: Basic limits surveys to 10 questions and limited responses, restricting longer or larger projects.
Cons: Paid response overages cost ₹5.00 each, and team plans require at least three users.

Alternatives

For scholarship administration rather than general survey work, consider Scholarship Commons, which has a free membership for students, reviewers and recommenders and paid membership for operating organizations. Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT is another paid option, with custom quotes based on organizational needs and possible implementation, training and ongoing support. Choose SmarterSelect when scholarship or program workflows fit better: its Create plan costs 2000.00 USD per year and includes 500 users per year, unlimited programs and 1,000 survey responses per year.

GO SGO is a paid, web-based alternative. Optimy may suit organizations seeking program management with a dedicated account manager; its Start plan is 650.00 EUR per month. For web-based advising, Ellucian Advising is an alternative with pricing not stated. Foundant CommunitySuite is a paid option with pricing provided after contacting Foundant. SmartSimple Cloud for Scholarship Management offers proposal-based pricing with a one-time implementation fee and recurring subscription fees.

For category comparisons, browse Survey Software, AI Market Research Software or Market Research Software. Scholarship-focused readers can also explore Scholarship Management Software, Application Management Software and Admissions Software.

Verdict

Choose SurveyMonkey if you need flexible survey creation, analysis and a path from individual use to team or enterprise administration. Its strongest reasons to buy are branching and branding alongside team controls and Audience reach. Look elsewhere if response volumes are unpredictable, overage costs are a concern, or your primary need is a dedicated scholarship or admissions management system.
