In their own words
Swagger Codegen
Swagger Codegen is an open-source tool that generates API client libraries, server stubs and documentation from OpenAPI specifications. Its template-driven engine parses OpenAPI or Swagger definitions and produces project code from schemas. Swagger states that it can generate client SDKs in over 40 languages and server boilerplate in over 20. Listed capabilities include OpenAPI import, schema-to-code generation, project scaffolding, custom templates, an interactive API reference, code samples and a command-line interface. Outputs and integrations include HTML and Confluence Wiki documentation, Apache2 configuration files and JMeter. The project is available from GitHub under the Apache-2.0 license, with a hosted option through SwaggerHub. SwaggerHub can generate code in a selected language and push it to source-control repositories. Supported client targets include C#, Dart, Go, Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, PHP, Python, R, Ruby, Scala, Swift and TypeScript variants. Server targets include ASP.NET Core, Go, Java Vert.x and JAX-RS options. The repository warns that untrusted descriptions may cause code injection.
TypeSpec
TypeSpec is a language for defining API shapes and data models, then producing schemas, API specifications, code, and documentation. Its standard library supports OpenAPI 3.0, JSON Schema 2020-12, and Protobuf. OpenAPI output can feed tools for API gateways, code generation, and validation; JSON Schema output can be used to validate data built from shared models. The HTTP library’s `@useAuth` decorator lets authors attach documented security schemes—including HTTP authentication, API keys, OAuth2, and OpenID Connect—to services, interfaces, or operations. Editor support for Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio includes syntax help and completion; the VS Code extension adds diagnostics, formatting, quick fixes, refactoring, and documentation preview. Users can extend TypeSpec with emitters and decorators. The CLI is available through npm for Node.js or as an experimental standalone executable, and a browser playground is available. TypeSpec is open source and free: free. Its emitter framework is experimental, and client emitters for JavaScript, Python, Java, and C# are in preview.
