TTSReader

TTSReader converts text and documents into speech, reads webpages aloud, and can create downloadable audio. It supports PDF, DOCX, TXT, CSV, and EPUB files, with MP3 and WAV listed as export formats and a maximum input of 200000. Voices come from Google, OpenAI, xAI, Microsoft, and proprietary AI providers. During playback, the reader highlights the current text and remembers the article and position so listening can resume later. Users can edit text while it plays and combine voices, languages, and speeds in one file. The service identifies proofreading, education, accessibility, language learning, audiobook creation, and voice-over production as uses. Its website plugin is free and includes playback controls, voice and speed selection, automatic scrolling, and saved preferences; the maker says it does not track users, use cookies, or show ads. API access is available, though the synchronous API recommends only a few thousand characters, calls 5k safe, and notes requests can time out after five minutes. The Free plan costs nothing and is for personal use only, with 5k premium-voice characters. Premium is $10.99 a month for one user and 1,000,000 premium characters per month. Pay-as-you-go plans cost $10 a month for 200,000 characters, $32 a month for 1,000,000, or $300 a month for 10,000,000; credits expire after one year, extended by each new purchase.

Voicebox

Voicebox is a free, open-source local AI voice studio for voice cloning, speech generation, dictation, and agent voice output. Its desktop app can clone a voice from as little as three seconds of audio, supplied by file, microphone recording, or system capture. The maker lists seven text-to-speech engines for cloning, preset voices, and delivery control. A timeline editor supports multi-voice narratives, arranging tracks, trimming clips, and mixing conversations; effects include pitch shift, reverb, delay, and compression. Dictation uses a global shortcut to send transcripts to the focused text field or clipboard, with local Whisper models supporting 99 languages. MCP-aware agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Cline can speak through Voicebox, and a local REST API provides speech generation and related functions. The privacy policy says the offline desktop app requires no account and does not send recordings, profiles, transcripts, generations, or settings to the maker. Local is free with unlimited local generations and captures. Cloud and mobile sync are marked as coming soon, and cloud pricing and limits are not final.
