In their own words

uBlock Origin

uBlock Origin is a free, open-source content blocker for desktop and Android versions of Firefox, as well as Chromium and Thunderbird versions. It blocks ads, trackers, coin miners, popups, anti-blockers, and malware sites by default. Several filter lists are built in, and users can add lists and hosts files or create custom rules using EasyList syntax with uBlock Origin extensions. If blocking is too broad, users can disable preselected lists. The basic and advanced popup interfaces include a per-site point-and-click firewall. The project’s stated purpose is to help users neutralize privacy-invading methods in the browser, and it is described as CPU- and memory-efficient, fast, and lean. It works best on Firefox and also supports Chromium-based browsers, including Edge and Opera. In Thunderbird, it affects feeds but not email. The project advises against running it alongside another content blocker. It is licensed under GPL-3.0/GPLv3, and enterprise deployment documentation is available.

wBlock

wBlock is a free, open-source ad blocker for Safari on Apple devices. It distributes filtering across five Safari content blockers, with a stated capacity of 750,000 rules. Users can add AdGuard-syntax, regional, annoyance, and custom filter lists by URL, pasted text, or file, and use an element zapper to remove page elements. Filtering, userscripts, and autoplay can be controlled separately for individual sites. The app includes a Greasemonkey-compatible userscript engine and supports UserCSS themes, including Less, Sass, and Stylus. Tube Cleaner and Player Cleaner add video options such as Picture-in-Picture and background audio. Its script catalog includes SponsorBlock, DeArrow, Dark Reader, Return YouTube Dislike, and TwitchAdSolutions. iCloud can sync lists, custom filters, userscripts, the allowlist, and settings; users can export a local backup instead. The privacy policy says the app does not collect browsing history, telemetry, or device identifiers and has no built-in analytics or crash reporting. It is available through the App Store, Homebrew, and a DMG download.
