In their own words

Upscal

Upscal uses built-in AI models to enhance low-resolution photos and videos on a device. Its image tools target blurry, compressed and old photos, aiming to improve edge sharpness, texture and detail. Video enhancement works frame by frame, and built-in super-resolution models can enlarge images and videos up to 8×. Batch processing is supported, with output formats including JPG, PNG, WebP, MP4, MOV and M4V. Upscal is available on iOS, macOS and Windows. Once the app and required resources are installed, normal image and video enhancement can run offline. The privacy policy says processed media is handled locally rather than sent to an external processing server, though anonymous technical diagnostics may be transmitted, including app and operating-system versions, device category, crash traces and error logs. The free plan costs nothing, has no subscription and includes core image and video enhancement with offline processing; no account is required. The maker permits commercial use when users follow applicable laws and have the necessary rights to the input content. Results vary with source quality and device capability, and enhancement cannot perfectly recover detail that was never captured.

Upscale.media

Upscale.media enlarges and enhances images using AI, with scaling up to 8x and batch processing for multiple images. Its tools include sharpening, retouching, face enhancement, deblurring, dehazing, and restoration. It accepts PNG, JPEG, JPG, WebP, and HEIC files, and images can be processed in a browser without installing software. API access supports integration with existing systems; the page also describes a console and dashboard for administration and bulk transformations. A free Google Play app is available, but there is no desktop app. The free plan includes 3 credits and 3 downloads each month, while guests can upscale one image per day. Paid options include 60 credits for $5.99 per month and a subscription for $69.99 per year. The annual subscription renews yearly and can be cancelled anytime. Monthly credits expire at each billing-cycle end; purchased credits remain valid for one year. Logged-in images can be up to 20,000 x 20,000 at 1x, with lower limits at higher scales.
