In their own words
Vistumbler
Vistumbler is free, open-source software for scanning nearby wireless access points and mapping them with wireless and GPS data. It finds networks through the Windows Native WiFi API or netsh and supports COM/NMEA GPS receivers. Users can import and export access point data, save KML and GPX files, track scans live in Google Earth, and use audio alerts. The stable release supports Windows 10 and 11 and requires .NET Framework 4. Official releases include an installer, source code, and a portable ZIP; the maker says these downloads do not bundle third-party installers or adware. The project recommends checking available checksums and using standard anti-malware practices during installation. Vistumbler can collect GPS and WiFi location data while running. WiFiDB accepts wireless scan uploads, including data from Vistumbler, and creates statistics and maps. The software is intended for legitimate network analysis and WiFi mapping; its terms prohibit unauthorized network access and monitoring without consent. An experimental MAUI preview is available for Windows and Android, but it remains in development and may have missing features or bugs.
WiFi Scanner
WiFi Scanner is commercial desktop software from AccessAgility LLC for investigating wireless signal, interference, coverage, and possible causes of WiFi problems. Its live access point grid shows signal, channel, width, security, vendor, and last-seen details, with alerts for interference and weak security. WiFi Survey and Planner provide walk-through and predictive coverage heatmaps, AP-on-a-Stick capture, and post-validation heatmaps. Copilot groups diagnostic action cards by category and provides finding counts and filter-aware recommendations. Performance tools cover throughput, latency, jitter, packet loss, and network-quality monitoring; LAN discovery identifies switches, access points, and other equipment. WebViewer allows a live scan to be shared by link without requiring viewers to install the app, and the software exports CSV data and reports. It supports Windows 10/11 on a 64-bit host and macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon or Intel. The 7-day trial includes all features without a credit card. Afterward, scanning continues in the background, but viewing live results requires a paid licence. Core costs $195 a year, billed once rather than as a subscription.
