In their own words
Vito
Vito is a free voice dictation application for Windows, macOS, and Linux. A hotkey turns speech into polished text pasted into the current application. Vito Assist handles spoken requests such as translations, answers, calculations, and word definitions, returning text. Users can select five cleanup styles or write a custom prompt, and can maintain a personal dictionary and custom vocabulary. Voice commands, searchable history, an always-on-top mini overlay, dashboards, achievements, and audio-file transcription are included. Vito says dictation and its interface support 60 languages. Parakeet can run on-device for transcription in 25 languages; local processing has no usage fees but uses more computer resources. Vito requires no account, analytics, or telemetry, keeps history and settings local, and sends audio to a configured remote endpoint when used. The software is open source. Its Free plan costs nothing with no subscription; cloud provider charges vary.
Wispr Flow
Wispr Flow is a voice dictation app for Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. It enters text wherever a cursor can type, including email, messaging, notes, terminals, code editors and AI tools. Flow supports 100+ languages and can detect the spoken language. It can remove filler words, add punctuation, format writing and handle corrections or repeated speech; users can set custom vocabulary and voice commands. Dictation is cloud-based, with controls for data use, sharing preferences and deleting stored data. The free plan allows 2,000 words per week on desktop and 1,000 per week on mobile, and includes a weekly Notetaker limit. Pro costs $12 per user per month with annual billing or $15 per user per month with monthly billing. Team plans add shared dictionaries, snippets and workspaces, centralized billing and user management. Notetaker provides meeting notes, speaker identification, questions across meetings and MCP access for AI tools, but currently works on Mac and Windows; mobile support is planned. Wispr recommends against Bluetooth earbuds because they can reduce dictation accuracy.
