Overview

Filmora covers the path from organizing footage through picture and sound refinement to finished video. It combines familiar editing tasks with AI-assisted analysis and creation, and is aimed at social creators, businesses and marketers, educators, and people making AI-assisted stories. Desktop, web, and mobile apps are available across Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and the web.

Key features

Timeline editing and project exchange

The editor includes trimming, keyframes, curves, camera tracking, dual timelines, and custom motion paths. That combination can serve quick clip assembly as well as edits needing more control over movement and timing. Filmora also imports supported XML timelines and exports Final Cut Pro 7 XML, useful when a project needs to move between compatible editing workflows.

AI tools, captions, and assets

AI Media Analysis identifies people, scenes, actions, speech, and key moments, then creates tags, summaries, and edit suggestions. Separate tools generate video, images, and audio; speech transcription and caption styling help with spoken content. The product advertises more than 2.9 million creative assets, spanning templates, effects, titles, transitions, music, stock media, filters, stickers, and plugins. That breadth is a practical advantage for creators who want materials close at hand, though the full library requires a paid plan.

Exports and storage

Filmora supports 4K export, but watermark-free 4K exports are an Advanced-plan inclusion. The free edition supports basic editing and exports, with a watermark; cloud storage and the full asset library also require payment. Team collaboration is supported, though the plan details do not establish which collaboration tools or limits apply.

Pricing

Filmora has a free plan, a free trial, and paid options. The Free plan is free, billed Forever, and exports with watermarks. It is suitable for learning the editor or making basic drafts, but not for delivering clean final videos.

Basic has custom pricing and includes 1 GB of cloud storage and 500 free AI Mate conversations. Perpetual also has custom pricing and includes 1 GB of cloud storage and 500 free AI Mate conversations. Its license covers the purchased major version and its updates, but not future major versions, so it suits buyers who prefer a version-specific license over an automatically renewing subscription.

Advanced costs 59.99 USD per year, billed US$59.99 /yr, and automatically renews; it can be canceled anytime. It includes 1,000 AI credits per month, 10 GB of cloud storage, more than 2.9 million creative assets, watermark-free 4K export, and 500 free AI Mate conversations. This is the clearest fit for regular publishing that needs clean high-resolution delivery and the larger asset library. Subscription AI credits are issued every 30 days, and unused credits from the prior period are reclaimed when the new allotment arrives.

Wondershare says financial and personal information is protected with advanced encryption and fraud protection. Support is available through instant live chat and email response within 24 hours.

Platforms

Filmora runs on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and the web, with desktop, mobile, and web apps. That spread makes it relevant to people working across device types, although the feature set for each platform is not detailed.

Who it's for

Filmora is a strong candidate for social creators, educators, marketers, and businesses that want timeline editing, AI assistance, captions, and a substantial asset collection in one editor. Its AI analysis may help people sort footage and identify useful moments, while the motion controls offer room to shape edits beyond simple trimming. It is less compelling for anyone who needs watermark-free exports without paying, or who needs a precise understanding of collaboration capabilities before choosing a plan.

Pros and cons

Broad editing range: trimming, keyframes, curves, camera tracking, dual timelines, and custom motion paths cover both basic and more controlled edits.
AI support across the workflow: analysis, generation, transcription, and caption styling address several stages of video production.
Large asset collection: the advertised 2.9M+ assets offer many kinds of ready-to-use creative material, but access to the full library requires a paid plan.
Free exports are watermarked: the free edition is viable for drafts, not polished delivery.
Advanced renews automatically: the annual plan requires attention to renewal, and unused AI credits do not carry into the next 30-day period.

Alternatives

Choose Rescript if Linux support or open-source, noncommercial use is a priority; its free use is for noncommercial purposes under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 license, with commercial use requiring a different arrangement. Riverside Video Editor may suit someone focused on multi-track recordings: its free plan provides a one-off two hours, up to 720p, with a watermark and 44.1 kHz audio. Consider CapCut for a mobile-focused editing workflow with basic editing features, free templates, and cloud storage.

Videoleap is another freemium mobile-oriented option; its free exports carry a Videoleap watermark. Diffusion Studio is worth considering if open-source software is central: its web editor, desktop app, dapi CLI, and skills are under MPL 2.0. FlexClip has a free plan capped at 12 online projects, 10 minutes per video, and one stock video and audio per project. InShot offers ad-supported free video and photo editing on mobile platforms. Kiru is a more focused choice for automatically cutting bad takes, silences, and mistakes, with one hour of video per month on its free plan and MP4 export.

Verdict

Filmora is best for creators and small teams who want a flexible timeline editor, AI-assisted media tools, captions, and a broad creative library without assembling separate applications. Advanced is the practical choice for watermark-free 4K delivery and full asset access, while the free plan is best treated as an evaluation and drafting tier. Look elsewhere if a watermarked-free free workflow or clearly defined collaboration terms are essential.
