To generate royalty-free AI music, choose a service whose current plan grants the use you need, create an original track with a rights-safe prompt, download the licensed file and keep the plan record. “Royalty-free” usually describes how you pay for use; it does not automatically give every copyright or resale right.
Define The Use Before You Generate
Write down where the music will appear: a monetized video, podcast, game, advertisement, stream, client project or personal post. Also decide whether you need vocals, an instrumental bed, stems for mixing, a WAV file, or a short loop. A track suitable for a personal video may not be cleared for commercial distribution.

Recommended Free Tools
Choose A Tool With A Stated Commercial Path
| Tool | What The Directory Establishes | Rights Check |
|---|---|---|
| Soundverse AI Beat Maker | Creator & Pro plans include commercial licenses, stem export and a multitrack studio. | The Free Tier starts with 1,000 tokens; use a paid plan for the stated commercial license. |
| Musicful | Generates vocal or instrumental songs and offers web, iOS and Android apps. | Commercial use is limited to Standard and Pro; Free and Basic are non-commercial. |
| Song Meowla | Paid one-time packs add commercial rights, priority processing and lossless audio. | The Free Tier has 10 daily generation credits and MP3 downloads; commercial rights begin with paid packs. |
| Zona | Paid plans include creation, downloads and commercial rights, with MP3 and lossless WAV export. | There is no free plan; confirm the weekly, monthly or yearly plan terms before publishing. |
| YuE | A free, open-source local generator for vocals and accompaniment that supports commercial use. | Running it locally requires Python and an NVIDIA GPU; listed desktop support is Linux and Windows. |
| Eleven Music | Generates vocal or instrumental tracks and exports MP3/WAV files and stems. | Commercial rights vary by plan and exclude film, television and studio games; the Free plan is personal use. |
| SongMusic.ai | Supports vocal or instrumental songs, stems and MP3/WAV exports on eligible plans. | Commercial use is limited to work generated on Professional plans; Starter is focused on standard MP3 downloads. |
If a platform’s current terms do not clearly cover your use, do not label the result royalty-free. Check the vendor’s licensing page before release.
Generate The First Draft
- Open the tool and select the output type. Choose instrumental when you need background music, or vocals when the song itself is the focus.
- Describe the job, not a living artist. Include mood, tempo range, instruments, structure, duration and where the music will play. For example: “Instrumental royalty-free background for a 90-second technology tutorial, 100 BPM, warm electric piano, muted guitar, soft synth pad, restrained drums, clean intro, low-density middle, clear ending, no vocals.”
- Keep the musical identity original. Add concrete arrangement instructions instead of asking for a sound-alike: “minor-key verse, brighter chorus, syncopated bass, no recognizable melody, no sampled dialogue.”
- Generate several versions. Save the prompt and generation date for the version you select. If the service offers references, use audio you created or have permission to use.
- Refine only the problem section. Use section editing, extension, remixing or inpainting where the product provides it. Ask for a shorter intro, a cleaner ending or less busy drums rather than regenerating the entire concept.
Make A Clean Royalty-Free Instrumental
For Video Backgrounds
Prompt for a predictable arrangement: “Instrumental underscore, 75 seconds, gentle pulse, soft marimba and light percussion, no lead melody, leave space for narration, 10-second fade-out.” Generate an alternate with a different instrument so you have an editorial backup.

For Podcasts And Streams
Ask for a short, loop-friendly bed: “Instrumental intro, 12 seconds, upbeat but unobtrusive, four-bar hook, clean stop, no vocals, no sound effects.” Export the format your editor accepts and keep the full-length source if the plan permits it.
For Games Or Interactive Projects
Describe the loop boundary: “Instrumental exploration loop, 60 seconds, seamless four-bar ending that returns to the opening chord, evolving pads, light percussion, no dramatic final hit.” Confirm that the selected plan covers games; Eleven Music’s stated commercial rights exclude studio games.

Edit, Export And Document The Track
- Remove unwanted parts. Where available, separate vocals or stems, lower competing instruments and repair sections with the editor.
- Export the needed files. Choose WAV when you need lossless editing, MP3 for lightweight delivery, and stems or MIDI only when your plan provides them.
- Save proof of the license. Keep the invoice or plan name, terms URL, generation date, prompt, source references and exported filenames together.
- Check the final use. Do not use an identifiable person’s voice, lyrics or uploaded recording without the necessary consent and rights. Follow the platform’s rules for covers, voice cloning and reference audio.
What “Royalty-Free” Does Not Settle
The U.S. Copyright Office says material generated entirely by AI is not copyrightable, a prompt alone does not make someone the author, and only human-authored parts of a mixed work can be protected. If a registration contains more than a minimal amount of AI-generated material, applicants must disclose it and describe their human contribution. These rules do not replace the music service’s contract, so retain your edits and records.
