Overview

The recorder is focused on preserving Skype calls with minimal intervention. It can begin recording when a call starts, save the result locally in several formats and send recordings to a web server through an FTP account. That workflow is practical for routine archives, remote handoff or businesses that already maintain FTP storage.

Skype access is not entirely plug-and-play: Skype's program-access settings must allow SkypeRecorder.exe to connect. The software also includes Silent Mode, which hides it from the computer screen and is described for parental-control scenarios, plus an answer-machine function for times when the user is away. Those capabilities broaden its use beyond ordinary call archiving, but they also make clear that this is a desktop utility rather than a general communications service.

Key features

Automatic recording: Capture can start with the Skype call itself, reducing missed recordings for recurring meetings, interviews or support conversations.
Audio and video files: MP3, WVA, OGG, FLAC and AVI are supported. The range covers common audio workflows as well as video capture, although users should choose a format compatible with their editing, playback or storage tools.
FTP upload: Recordings can be uploaded automatically through an FTP account. This is valuable when files must reach a web server without a separate manual transfer step, but it assumes you already have suitable FTP access.
Silent Mode: The application can be hidden from the computer screen. That is relevant to the stated parental-control use case, while users who need an obvious recording indicator may prefer a more visible workflow.
Answer machine: It can respond automatically when you are away from the computer, useful for unattended Skype availability rather than simply recording live calls.
Skype authorization: Initial operation requires granting the executable access in Skype's program settings, an extra setup task that administrators should account for.

Pricing

There is no free plan, but a free trial allows audio recording from a Skype video call. Both paid licenses cost 29.95 USD per once as a one-time charge and include a lifetime license with free updates, plus the advertised 30-day money-back guarantee and no-charge 24/7 technical support.

ID - License: Fits one specified Skype account or ID used across multiple PCs. Choose it when the account matters more than the machine.
PC - License: Fits one specific PC and permits multiple Skype accounts on that machine. It is the better match for a shared workstation or household computer.

The two options provide the same recording capabilities and price; the important restriction is where the license is bound. Selecting the wrong type could leave a multi-account setup or a multi-computer account arrangement outside the intended license terms.

Platforms

The product runs on Windows and macOS, with Windows requirements covering 10, 8/8.1, 7 and Vista in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. The vendor separately lists AthTek Skype Recorder for Mac, version 1.0. There is no mobile app, so Android and iOS callers need another solution.

Who it's for

This is a sensible choice for Skype-dependent individuals, small businesses, interviewers or families that need automatic desktop recording and already have FTP infrastructure. The one-time price and lifetime updates suit buyers avoiding subscriptions. It is a poor fit for mobile-first users, teams needing broad service integrations or anyone whose calls span platforms beyond Skype.

Pros and cons

Pros: Automatic start limits forgotten recordings; audio and video format support accommodates different archives; FTP upload automates off-computer delivery; both license types are one-time purchases with lifetime updates; 24/7 support and a 30-day refund window reduce purchase risk.
