In their own words
Avocation
Avocation is a habit-tracking app for planning daily routines and setting goals. It includes lessons on habit change, including ways to build helpful habits and break unwanted ones. Users can choose goals ranging from learning a language to saving for retirement, with habit templates and reminders available. Completing a habit grows a plant, and missing a day does not trigger a streak penalty. The app is available on Android and iOS; the iOS listing says it requires iOS 12.0 or later. The free version is available without charge or registration, though feature limits may apply. The Ireland App Store listing sets the free allowance at up to three habits. Registration is generally not required. The privacy policy says the app uses no cookies and requires no device permissions. It uses Firebase for app usage analysis, performance monitoring, and error logs, with data described as anonymized. Habit recommendations are informational, not medical care.
Habo
Habo is an open-source habit tracker for building routines on Android, iOS, Linux, and macOS. Users can record a completed habit, numeric entries, missed habits, skips, and notes; progress views show streaks, trends, and completions over time. Reminders, a monthly calendar, categories, reordering, and archiving help organize habits. Tracking works offline, with changes reconciled after reconnection using a Last-Write-Wins CRDT engine. User-created data stays on the device by default. Backup and sync require an account; Habo Sync encrypts data on the device before it leaves, using Argon2id key derivation and AES-GCM with user-controlled keys. The Supabase backend can be self-hosted for free without restrictions. The product also lists data export, backup, home-screen widgets, and a URL scheme for opening the app from Shortcuts and other apps. Habit tracking costs nothing. Habo Sync costs $1.99 a month or $9.99 a year. Habit notes are capped at 400 characters.
