In their own words
Basis AI Scribe
Basis AI Scribe captures patient encounters and drafts clinical notes for clinician review and approval. Before a visit, it brings the visit reason, relevant chart context, and recent history into one view. Clinicians can compare a draft with its source transcript, edit it, and approve the note before it moves to the chart. Basis processes audio, transcripts, and drafts on hardware controlled by the practice; local capture and drafting can continue when the internet connection is interrupted. Basis Desktop runs on supported Mac or Windows computers and uses the computer microphone. Basis Mobile captures visits on supported phones, tablets, or watches, independently or with Audio Beacons. Listed integrations include Epic, athenahealth, Oracle Health, Canvas Medical, eClinicalWorks, NextGen, and Tebra. Basis says the clinical app has no account, login, analytics, or advertising code, and that it does not send visit audio or draft notes to a vendor. Its plan is listed as a free download, while pricing is on request.
Empathia AI
Empathia AI is a clinical assistant for clinicians, supporting patient intake, documentation, and follow-up on the web, iOS, Android, and through a Chrome extension. Before visits, it summarizes patient history, laboratory results, and referrals from uploaded files or screenshots. Intake accepts typing or voice and flags risks and insights. The scribing tools transcribe conversations in more than 30 languages and provide both verbatim and AI-assisted dictation. After visits, customizable templates generate care plans, handouts, and supplementary notes. Beta tools can suggest ICD and CPT codes from notes and complete forms, referrals, and requisitions for review. Listed EMR integrations include athenahealth, Accuro, DrChrono, eClinicalWorks, Epic, OSCAR McMaster, and Plexia. Empathia states that it is HIPAA, PHIPA, and PIPEDA compliant and lists SOC 2 Type II. A free trial lasts 21 days, covers 100 encounters, includes Premium features, and requires no credit card. Approved medical students and residents may receive free access subject to school approval. Premium pricing is $50 a year with annual billing or $75 a month with monthly billing.
