In their own words

Bexio

Bexio is paid cloud software combining accounting, invoicing, payroll, banking, and administration for Swiss small businesses, start-ups, and self-employed people. It provides digital accounting, document processing, fiduciary access, quotes, invoices, QR invoices, and automated dunning. Direct interfaces connect with more than 65 Swiss banks. Swissdec-certified payroll supports automated calculations and transmission to insurance companies. The bexio Go app handles contacts, documents, invoice creation, time tracking, and AI posting of QR invoices and receipts. Its marketplace offers more than 100 apps, including HubSpot, Shopify, WooCommerce, and Mailchimp connectors; a REST API supports custom integrations. Bexio says data is stored in certified Swiss data centres, encrypted in transit, and backed up daily at several locations. Plans start at CHF 35 a month with annual billing, excluding VAT, and there is a 30-day trial without a credit card. Packages target companies with 1 to 25 employees.

GnuCash

GnuCash is free personal and small-business accounting software for tracking bank accounts, stocks, income, and expenses. Its double-entry accounting requires every transaction’s debits and credits to balance. Small-business tools cover customers, vendors, jobs, invoicing, bill payment, tax and billing terms, and budgeting. Users can create customizable balance sheets, profit and loss, and portfolio valuation reports, as well as charts. GnuCash imports QIF and OFX files with transaction matching; German users can use HBCI to download statements and initiate transfers and direct debits. Data is stored in XML by default. Support for SQLite3, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases is experimental, and some reported corner cases can cause data loss. The GNU GPL-licensed software has installation options for Linux and installers for macOS and Windows. The main application is unavailable for iOS and iPadOS, while the separate Android app appears abandoned according to the project FAQ. The project is maintained, documented, and translated by volunteers.
