Overview

Birdie combines care management with rostering, finance, and compliance. Care plans, visit notes, and eMAR share a client record, giving teams a common place for core care documentation. That joined-up approach suits agencies seeking to coordinate office and field work in one system; agencies looking only for a narrow scheduling tool may not need its broader scope.

Founded in 2017 and based in London, Birdie supports care businesses from first-client providers to established operators. It runs on Android, iOS, and the web.

Key features

Care delivery and field work

The Carer App combines schedules, care plans, tasks, messaging, and check-in tools, and supports offline use. That is useful for carers working where connectivity is unreliable. Birdie also supports electronic visit verification, route optimization, care documentation, and availability management, covering both visit administration and field coordination.

Office and family tools

The secure, web-based Agency Hub gives office staff and managers access from any computer. Relatives can use the Family App for visit updates and care notes, extending visibility beyond the agency and care team. More than 50 pre-built reports and real-time dashboards give managers reporting tools without relying solely on custom analysis.

Integrations and security

Rostering integrations include Careplanner/Nourish, Malinko, Cold Harbour, Caras, Quickplan, iCare, and CareFree; Birdie accepts no new integrations. It also connects with Xero and QuickBooks, payroll systems including Sage, and CRM systems, with API access and custom exports. Agencies that depend on adding a new rostering integration should look elsewhere.

Birdie states that it is ISO 27001 certified, holds Cyber Essentials Plus, exceeds NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit standards, and complies with UK GDPR. It also says it hosts data in the UK, conducts annual penetration testing, monitors for threats continuously, and provides 24/7 incident response. Live chat support is included with a response in 10 minutes or less; Premium Support costs extra.

Pricing

Birdie's four agency plans use custom pricing based on scheduled care hours, billed monthly. Birdie asks agencies to request a quote, so providers should compare that quote against their scheduled workload and required features. There is no free plan, but a free trial is offered.

Starter: Digital care assessments and plans, templated drag-and-drop rostering, invoicing and payroll, Carer and Family apps, GP Connect, and eMAR. It covers the core care and agency workflows, but does not include the higher-tier tools described in the other plans.
Core: Everything in Starter, plus analytics, digital body maps, action creation and assignment, auditing forms, and multi-payer invoicing. It suits agencies that need more oversight and billing capability.
Advanced: Everything in Core, plus secure carer messaging, evidence tagging, workflow automation, recommended assessments, and outcome monitoring. These additions suit providers seeking more structured communication and operational follow-through.
Plus: Everything in Advanced, with custom workflows and Premium Support. It is the tier for agencies that need tailored processes and the higher support option.

SmartPlans is part of the Birdie platform, not a standalone product, and customers get three free recording hours to start. The subscription is listed at £2.75 per recording hour, with a monthly commitment and unused hours rolling forward. Pay-as-you-go is £3.50 per recording hour, billed monthly, with no minimum commitment. The subscription rewards predictable usage; pay-as-you-go costs more per hour but avoids a minimum commitment. Both options provide AI-powered assessments.

Platforms

Birdie supports Android, iOS, and web. The Agency Hub is web-based, while carers and relatives have dedicated apps.

Who it's for

Birdie fits homecare agencies that want care documentation, rostering, business workflows, and family updates connected in one platform. Its plan range serves providers from those onboarding a first client to established operators, though scheduled-hours pricing means each agency needs a quote to assess affordability. Providers needing a new rostering integration should rule it out; Birdie accepts no new integrations.

Pros and cons

Pros: A unified client record brings care plans, visit notes, and eMAR together, helping teams coordinate documentation.
Pros: Carer and Family apps extend the platform to field staff and relatives, while offline capability supports carers without reliable connectivity.
Pros: Reporting, business-system connections, API access, and custom exports support broader agency operations.
Cons: The four agency plans require a custom quote based on scheduled care hours, making costs harder to assess upfront.
Cons: SmartPlans is not sold standalone, and its subscription requires a monthly commitment.
Cons: Agencies cannot add new rostering integrations.
Cons: Premium Support carries an additional fee.

Alternatives

CareCade is worth comparing for agencies seeking a platform with plans priced by client capacity: Grow is $300/mo for up to 50 clients and unlimited staff, while Scale is $550/mo for unlimited clients and staff.

Generations Homecare System may suit agencies that want its EVV option, priced at $25/month, though it requires an existing Generations account and adds visit verification fees.

ShiftCare is an alternative with a free trial and a Premium plan priced at $20 per user, per month billed annually, or $25 per user, per month billed monthly; its minimum is five staff.

ANKOTA is another paid option for home care, EVV, I/DD, adult day, and self-direction programs, with custom pricing.

AveeCare may appeal to agencies wanting a single plan at $6/patient/month, billed monthly based on peak active patient count, with unlimited users and caregivers and no monthly commitment.

Rosemark System offers a month-to-month starter plan at $49/month for small private-pay home care agencies, without a long-term contract.

AxisCare is an alternative for agencies that prefer quote-based plans organized by agency size, including a Medium Agencies tier for 15–500 clients and Enterprise Agencies for 1,000+ clients.

CareVoyant is another paid home care software option with pricing not published and a demo available by contacting the provider.

Verdict

Birdie is a strong fit for homecare agencies that want care records, field tools, family updates, and agency operations working together. Its breadth and offline-capable Carer App are compelling; the chief reasons to look elsewhere are custom scheduled-hours pricing and the inability to add new rostering integrations.
