In their own words
Church Volunteering
Church Volunteering is a web-based rostering tool for volunteer coordinators at small to mid-size churches. Coordinators can build ministry teams, assign volunteers to roles and publish rosters with service dates and times. Volunteers may join multiple teams, and the directory records their contact details, team memberships and service frequency. Individual profiles include service history, upcoming roster slots and coordinator notes. Volunteers can confirm or decline an assignment through an email button without logging in or downloading an app. They can also mark unavailable dates from a personal page that requires no login. Roster notifications go out immediately, with automatic reminders three days and one day before a service. The free plan supports one team and up to 10 volunteers, with manual reminders. Standard costs $12.00 per month and adds unlimited teams and volunteers, automated email reminders, roster history, unavailability tracking and a dashboard. Church costs $29.00 per month and adds multiple admins, SMS reminders, priority support and service history reports.
Playasoft Volunteer Database
Playasoft Volunteer Database is a free, open-source web application for organizing volunteers at festivals and community events. It is self-hosted and provides event, department, shift, and signup management. Organizers create departments and schedule shifts with specific times, durations, capacities, and individual signup slots. Volunteers can sign up themselves. Access controls let organizers restrict shifts by permission level, using built-in roles such as admin, volunteer, medical, fire, and ranger. Volunteers can upload certification documents for administrator review before receiving a corresponding role. Password protection can limit access to sensitive shifts. The project includes Docker Compose setup instructions and requires Docker and Docker Compose for its quick start. Its documented Docker environment uses MariaDB 10.11. Redis and a separate WebSocket server can provide optional real-time updates. The repository identifies an AGPL-3.0 license, and the free plan costs nothing. Multiple organizations, multiple events per installation, and a hosted option are listed as roadmap phases.
