Overview

Connecteam is a workforce management app for deskless teams, combining operations, employee communications and training. It suits employers who want scheduling and day-to-day coordination alongside HR tools, not just a rota. Its breadth is useful, but the internet-only requirement rules it out for teams that need offline access.

Key features

Operations and scheduling

The Operations Hub brings together a time clock, job scheduling, forms and quick tasks. Scheduling includes auto-scheduling, availability collection, time-off management, open shifts and shift swaps, giving managers several parts of coverage planning in one place. This is a stronger fit for teams coordinating changing shifts than for businesses seeking only a basic clock-in tool.

Communications and HR

The Communications Hub combines chat and updates with a directory, surveys, events, a knowledge base and a help desk. The HR & Skills Hub adds time off, courses, quizzes, documents, recognition, rewards, hiring, onboarding and an org chart. Together, these tools make Connecteam relevant to employers seeking staff communication and employee development as well as scheduling; teams that only need a shift planner may find the wider scope unnecessary.

Integrations and security

Connecteam lists integrations including ADP Workforce Now, Gusto, QuickBooks Online, Xero, Bamboo HR, Lightspeed Restaurant K series, Square and Wix. API keys, Zapier API-key authentication, webhooks and OAuth 2.0 provide routes for data transfer. Connecteam says it complies with GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2 and CCPA, and places its data centers in Germany (AWS) and the Netherlands (MS Azure).

Pricing

The free Small Business Plan is for businesses with fewer than 10 employees. A 14-day free trial is offered without a credit card. These make it possible for a small team to start without a paid commitment, but the free plan's employee threshold is restrictive for larger organizations.

Hub Basic plans are each $29/mo, billed yearly, for the first 30 users. Operations Hub Basic charges $0.8/month for each additional user; HR & Skills Hub Basic and Communications Hub Basic each charge $0.5/month for each additional user. These entry plans suit teams that need one hub at a time, but employers adding users should account for the per-user charge and annual billing.

Other listed plans are Basic at 35.00 USD per month, Advanced at 59.00 USD per month and Expert at 119.00 USD per month, each for the first 30 users with 30 users included. Limited is free with limited feature access. Enterprise has custom pricing and includes single sign-on and increased API rate limits. The plan distinctions beyond those stated are not enough to make a feature-by-feature choice; teams needing single sign-on or higher API rate limits have a clear reason to consider Enterprise.

Platforms

Connecteam supports Android, iOS, web and API, with mobile apps and optimization for smartphones and desktop computers. Android requires version 6.0 or later; iOS requires 15.5 or later. The app requires an internet connection and cannot currently be used offline, a material limitation for staff working where connectivity is unreliable.

Who it's for

Connecteam is best suited to deskless employers who want scheduling, operational tasks, staff communications and HR or training tools grouped together. It is less suitable for teams with fewer than reliable internet access or those that need only a narrow scheduling function.

Pros and cons

Pro: Scheduling covers availability, time off, open shifts, shift swaps and auto-scheduling, supporting more than basic rota creation.
Pro: Three hubs combine operations with communication and HR tools, which can reduce the need to separate those workflows across products.
Pro: Listed integrations and API connection options support data transfer with business systems.
Con: Offline use is not supported, so reliable internet access is essential.
Con: The free Small Business Plan is limited to businesses with fewer than 10 employees, while Hub Basic's $29/mo price is billed yearly and additional-user charges apply after 30 users.

Alternatives

For a free scheduling option capped at 30 users, Sling includes shift scheduling, time-off requests, available shifts and messaging; it is a practical alternative for teams that do not need Connecteam's broader hubs. TNC Track offers five free seats, with $5/seat after that, and Team & Attendance free forever, making it worth considering when those modules and a seat-based free tier are the priority. ShiftCal has a free plan for five people at one site, while its Pro plan is 299.00 EUR per month, billed monthly; it may suit a small single-site team comparing a free starting tier.

Rosie offers a free plan for up to 15 people at one site, including rosters, shift templates and auto-fill, so it is a more focused option for small scheduling teams. Shifton has a free forever plan for up to 10 team members, with scheduling, a calendar and a time clock, another option for a small team prioritizing those functions. Homebase offers task and tip manager add-ons for $13.00 and $25.00 per month respectively, worth comparing when those specific tools are the need. Cicini is a web-based alternative. Emplora offers a free plan for one location and up to 15 employees, with schedules, shifts and team management, which may appeal to a small single-location operation.

Readers comparing category-specific options can also browse Employee Scheduling Software, Time and Attendance Software, Attendance Tracking Software, Employee Directory Software and Gym Staff Scheduling Software.

Verdict

Choose Connecteam if your deskless workforce needs scheduling, operations, communication and HR tools in one app, and can work online. Look elsewhere if offline access is essential, or if your team needs only a simple scheduler and would not use the additional hubs.
