Overview

Kananas brings membership records, a communication website and a member portal together, then extends that foundation to dance-school operations. Studios can manage recurring classes and private lessons, assign teachers, track student progress, bill tuition and sell tickets for events or recitals. The breadth makes it a stronger fit for membership-based organizations with several administrative needs than for studios seeking only a class calendar.

Existing records can be imported from spreadsheets or systems such as Mindbody and Jackrabbit. For ongoing connections, Kananas offers a REST API, webhooks and a sandbox, and says Zapier or Make can connect it to more than 2,000 applications. That flexibility can help studios preserve established workflows, although the practical value depends on the connections they need.

Key features

Scheduling covers recurring classes and private lessons, with teacher assignment and student-progress tracking. Attendance tracking, tuition billing and recital management round out the studio tools. Together, they cover both the teaching schedule and key administrative tasks, rather than treating classes as a standalone calendar.

Students, parents and administrators can access Kananas through its iOS and Android apps, with web access also available. The dance-school offering supports USD billing, and its FAQ names Stripe as a local payment gateway for US studios. If the suggested tip that covers payment fees is declined, transaction fees are 2.4% plus $0.25, a cost studios should factor into online collections.

A built-in AI assistant is described as helping automate tasks and generate studio reports and insights. Kananas also describes risk-appropriate security measures, including access controls, secure communications, logging, backups, infrastructure security and incident procedures, alongside a GDPR data-processing agreement. Users can export their database or lists, but portability does not remove the need to understand what happens to stored data when an account goes unused or a subscription ends.

Pricing

Kananas has a free plan capped at 50 contacts. It gives smaller organizations a no-cost starting point, but that cap may be restrictive for a growing studio with a broad member base. Paid plans start at $99/year and begin at 250 contacts, which is the entry point for studios that need more room than the free tier allows.

The M plan costs $366/year and includes 1,000 members with all features. It is the clearest fit among the stated plans for a studio that needs the full feature set and has a membership within that limit. The 30-day trial is free, has no commitment, and converts to the Free version afterward, giving studios a way to evaluate the service without an immediate paid renewal.

Data terms matter alongside the price: a free account unused for at least six months may be deleted, and data following a non-renewed subscription is destroyed three months after the term ends. Exporting a database or lists before those points is prudent for organizations that need to retain records.

Platforms

Kananas supports web, Android and iOS, and offers an API platform. Mobile apps are intended for members and administrators, while the API, webhooks and sandbox provide routes for integrations beyond the standard interface.

Who it's for

Kananas suits dance schools, clubs, associations and other membership-based organizations that want studio operations tied to a broader membership CRM. It is less compelling for a studio that needs only scheduling, or one whose contact count exceeds the plan limits without a suitable paid tier. Customer support is available in US time zones, but response or resolution times are not guaranteed unless agreed in a plan or quotation.

Pros and cons

Pros: Scheduling, tuition billing, attendance and recital management sit alongside member records and parent or student access, reducing the need to split those functions across separate services.
Pros: Spreadsheet and competitor-system imports, plus API, webhook and automation-platform connections, give studios options for migration and integration.
Pros: A free tier and a no-commitment 30-day trial make it possible to start small or evaluate before paying.
Cons: The free plan stops at 50 contacts, while the stated M plan covers 1,000 members; studios need to match their scale to those limits.
Cons: Declining the suggested payment-fee tip leaves transaction fees of 2.4% plus $0.25.
Cons: Free accounts unused for six months may be deleted, and data after a non-renewed subscription is destroyed three months after term end.

Alternatives

For a broader comparison of studio-focused options, see Dance Studio Management Software.

Choose DanceBiz if you prefer a paid service with monthly rolling plans and support across desktop and mobile platforms. ClassJuggler is another paid option, with a separately priced customer-portal add-on and a plan for emerging schools. Consider The Studio Director if you want a paid dance-school product with trial access and student-count-based packages.

Stepsi is worth comparing if you want a freemium option with a Plus plan capped at 100 active members. Class Manager may suit studios prioritizing a free service with no monthly subscription and a flat service charge for online payments. Rosterra is a paid alternative with monthly, per-location plans and unlimited staff accounts on its Core plan. StudioPartner offers a free tier with caps including 30 students and 90 days of attendance history. YourFee is another option, with a seven-day free trial capped at 10 active students.

Verdict

Choose Kananas if your dance school needs scheduling, billing and recital administration integrated with a membership CRM, and its contact limits fit your scale. Its imports and integration routes add useful flexibility. Look elsewhere if you need a narrower class-management tool, more headroom than the stated plans provide, or longer data retention after a subscription lapses.
