In their own words

EnergyCAP

EnergyCAP is a cloud-based utility bill and energy management platform for organizations with multiple buildings and utilities. It tracks electricity, natural gas, water, sewer, and other commodities from bills and meters, then provides analytics, reporting, and auditing. Automated auditing checks for duplicate or overlapping bills, missing bills, and unusual use, cost, or demand. The platform benchmarks building performance, supports consumption trend analysis, and allocates costs to departments, tenants, cost centers, or buildings using formulas such as square footage, occupants, percentages, or metered usage. Watts AI provides insights from utility data, while Watts AI Chat lets users explore data conversationally and generate reports. EnergyCAP integrates with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, lists interfaces such as Desigo CC and an Analytics REST API, and offers formatted accounting exports compatible with several ERP systems. It serves organizations including universities, healthcare systems, governments, and large enterprises with multiple locations. Pricing is on request. EnergyCAP states that it maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance, and the service cannot be hosted on customer-owned servers.

OpenEMS

OpenEMS is a free, modular open-source platform for monitoring, controlling, and integrating energy storage, renewable sources, and related devices and services. Its stack combines OpenEMS Edge for on-site device communication and control, OpenEMS UI for browser and smartphone access, and OpenEMS Backend for connecting Edge systems over the internet for aggregation, monitoring, and control. The architecture supports fast PLC-like control and reusable device-independent algorithms. Integrations cover batteries, solar and battery inverters, EV chargers, meters, tariffs, and data services, using interfaces such as MQTT, Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU, InfluxDB, M-Bus, 1-Wire, JSON/REST, and JSON/Websocket. Edge and Backend use Eclipse Public License 2.0; UI uses GNU Affero General Public License 3. Production deployment guidance covers Debian, Ubuntu, or Docker, and Java 21 is required. Source is available online and on GitHub, with monthly releases described. The getting-started setup is intended for testing, not production.
