In their own words
FleetForger
FleetForger provides maintenance tools for heavy-duty shops, covering work orders, driver inspections, parts inventory, preventive maintenance and unit tracking. Work orders can record separate labor entries for multiple technicians, track parts and labor, and be printed or emailed. Inspections support defect photos, customer approval links, audit timestamps and DOT §396.11 pre- and post-trip templates. Shops can schedule per-unit maintenance by miles, engine hours or days, then use alerts and one-click work-order creation. The system tracks serial-numbered components and their service histories across units. Inventory features include phone barcode scanning, automatic deductions for work-order parts, low-stock alerts and vendor and cost history. QuickBooks Online supports invoice pushes and a sync log. Its installable progressive web app supports offline inspection, time and photo capture, syncing when online. Plans start at $99 a month; the 14-day trial requires no credit card. After the trial, unsubscribed accounts become view-only, with data retained for 90 days. FleetForger offers Android, iOS, web and API access.
Traccar
Traccar is GPS tracking software for monitoring devices through a self-hosted server or managed hosting. It shows device positions in real time on road maps or satellite imagery, alongside sensor readings and other tracker data. Alerts can flag geofence crossings, harsh driving, fuel drops, and maintenance events. Trip records, charts, summaries, and location history are available for review, with report export to Excel. Traccar works with trackers from manufacturers including Teltonika, Jimi IoT, Ruptela, Queclink, Suntech, and TopFlyTech across more than 200 protocols. Its server runs on Windows or Linux, on owned hardware or in the cloud. Android and iOS apps require a Traccar server; a separate client app can make a smartphone act as a tracker. The API supports service functions and live updates. The server is free and open source for private or commercial use. Managed plans are listed at $9.95 a month for a shared account and $49.95 a month for a dedicated server.
