Overview

TripIt turns forwarded booking confirmations into a consolidated itinerary, rather than asking travelers to build each trip from scratch. It is a strong fit for people juggling reservations across several travel categories, especially those who value offline access.

The free tier handles the core organizing, but its three-document-per-trip limit is restrictive. Pro is aimed at travelers who want flight disruption alerts and airport maps, not merely a larger place to store documents.

Key features

Forward confirmations to plans@tripit.com or enable Inbox Sync, and TripIt assembles an itinerary from supported bookings. It covers flights, hotels, rental cars, trains, airport shuttles, cruises, travel-agency bookings and event reservations. Confirmation emails from thousands of suppliers are supported in English, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. This range makes TripIt useful for multi-stop trips with varied reservations; travelers whose plans do not arrive by email may get less benefit from its automatic organization.

Itineraries can be opened offline in the app, which is useful when a connection is unavailable during travel. The Mac app also supports offline access, but requires an Apple M1 chip or later. SAP Concur bookings can sync automatically, and the product also supports route planning, shared itineraries and calendar sync.

Pro adds real-time alerts for delays, cancellations, connections, gate changes and baggage claim information. It also offers rebooking options across available airlines after a delay or cancellation, plus interactive maps for 103 airports worldwide. Those extras are most relevant to frequent flyers; they do not replace the broader value of having all reservations in one itinerary.

TripIt encrypts sensitive personal information on mobile devices and restricts access by passcode. It does not offer phone support and aims to respond to billing tickets within one business day, a limitation worth weighing if direct phone assistance matters to you.

Pricing

TripIt is free, with three document uploads per trip. It is the sensible starting point for travelers who mainly need email-based itinerary organization and can keep attachments to a minimum. The cap can be a drawback on document-heavy trips.

TripIt Pro costs $49 per year and allows 25 document uploads per trip, alongside flight alerts, alternate-flight options and airport maps. It suits frequent flyers who can make use of those travel-day features. The 30-day trial offers a way to assess Pro before paying; the free plan remains the lower-cost choice if alerts and maps are not priorities.

Platforms

TripIt is available on the web, Android, iOS and macOS. Offline itinerary access is supported in the app, and the Mac app requires an Apple M1 chip or later.

Who it's for

Choose TripIt if confirmations arrive across many suppliers and you want them consolidated without manually assembling every itinerary. It is particularly useful for travelers combining flights with lodging, ground transport and activities, or those who need trip details offline. Travelers who depend on numerous uploaded documents should account for the per-trip caps, and those who require phone support should look elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Broad reservation coverage: It organizes confirmations across air, lodging, transport and event categories, making it practical for complex trips.
Offline access: Itineraries remain accessible in the app without a connection; Mac users need an M1-or-later machine.
Useful Pro flight support: Disruption alerts, rebooking options and maps for 103 airports can help frequent flyers manage changes.
Low free-plan document allowance: Three uploads per trip may be insufficient for travelers who keep many travel documents together.
No phone support: Billing help is handled by ticket, with a stated aim of replying within one business day.

Alternatives

Compare travel itinerary apps if you want to weigh TripIt against a broader set of itinerary tools.

Pappus Travel Planner is a free option with apps across Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows; choose it if that wider platform coverage matters more than TripIt's Pro flight assistance.

Roadtrippers may suit travelers focused on planning routes with stops: its free tier allows one saved trip and three stops per trip, while Basic is $11.99 per month for three saved trips and 20 stops per trip.

TripCraftr is another freemium option for travelers who want unlimited trips and invitees on its free plan, subject to daily limits on documents and replies.

tabiori is a freemium alternative available on Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, web and Windows, with a free plan that includes 100 MB of uploads.

TravelerBuddy is a freemium alternative with automatic trip generation capped at six on its free plan.

TripMapper offers a free trip plan with card and list views, notes, tasks and pre-made itineraries; consider it if those planning elements are a closer fit than email-driven confirmation import.

Jettova offers free trip planning, with bookings paid to partners at their listed prices.

Lambus has a free basic platform and a separate PRO option; consider it if you want to compare a basic itinerary tool with a paid feature tier.

Verdict

TripIt is a good choice for travelers who want confirmation emails gathered into an offline itinerary, with an especially clear case for frequent flyers who will use Pro's disruption alerts and airport maps. Its main reasons to look elsewhere are the free plan's three-document cap, Pro's $49 annual cost and the absence of phone support.
