Overview

Gigwalk is a field-work platform for businesses coordinating tasks and evidence across multiple locations, either with their own staff or a distributed workforce. It is a strong fit for brands and research teams with varied field needs; businesses should weigh its broad workflow against custom pricing.

Projects move from setup and GPS-based worker matching through execution and real-time analysis. The company was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in San Francisco; it identifies itself as Gigwalk, also known as Sandpiper Labs, Inc.

Key features

Field operations and retail audits

Assignment, scheduling, messaging, tracking, and validation give managers a connected way to coordinate distributed work. For retail brands, share-of-shelf measurement and display-compliance checks make the platform relevant to store visibility programs. Templates, barcode scanning, photos, and GPS-, time-, and date-verified submissions add useful evidence and structure. Dashboards and analytics help teams follow progress and review results, though verification tools do not remove the need to assess submitted work.

Digital testing and AI data

Digital testing spans exploratory and functional work, app screenshots, online and offline experience measurement, and tester follow-up to identify bugs. AI projects can collect and annotate images and video with customizable attributes. That range makes Gigwalk useful to software and AI teams as well as field operations groups, but the different work types may require distinct project design and oversight.

Integrations and privacy

An API and webhook infrastructure supports real-time retrieval of platform data, which can suit businesses connecting field results to other systems. Gigwalk says personally identifying information is stored on restricted database servers; its privacy policy also describes collecting and sharing location and task work-product. Users can request account deletion through support.

Pricing

Business software pricing is custom pricing: businesses are invited to request a quote. There is no published software price to compare against project volume or team size.

The Gigwalk mobile app is 0.00 USD per free and free to download. Individual Gigs pay $3 to $100 or more, depending on the task; payment is through PayPal within seven days after customer acceptance, provided the balance due is at least $35. Smaller balances may carry over. This is a separate, task-dependent payment arrangement, not a business software subscription.

Platforms

The platform supports Android, iOS, web, and API. The Gigwalker app is available only on iPhone and Android smartphones, not other devices. Businesses can use separate support resources for workforce-management software or crowdsourcing, while Gigwalkers have support for the mobile app.

Who it's for

Gigwalk serves consumer brands, retail and merchandising, consulting and market research, and software and AI companies. Its use cases include retail and QSR audits, mystery shops, safety checks, location surveys, property inspections, digital experience testing, and AI training data. Businesses that need location-based evidence across many tasks can make use of the breadth; teams with a narrow need or a fixed software budget may prefer a more focused product with a price they can assess upfront.

Pros and cons

Pros: One workflow spans project creation, GPS-based matching, execution, validation, and analytics, reducing the need to separate those stages across tools.
Pros: Businesses can use their own staff or a network of 1.7 million Gigwalkers, giving them an option for work at scale.
Pros: Evidence tools include photos, barcode scanning, and GPS-, time-, and date-verification, useful when location and completion need to be checked.
Cons: Business pricing requires a quote, so cost cannot be compared from a published rate before contacting the company.
Cons: Gigwalker work is limited to iPhone and Android smartphones, ruling out other device types for individual workers.
Cons: Gig payments depend on customer approval and a $35 balance threshold, so smaller balances can carry over.
