In their own words
GnuCash
GnuCash is free personal and small-business accounting software for tracking bank accounts, stocks, income, and expenses. Its double-entry accounting requires every transaction’s debits and credits to balance. Small-business tools cover customers, vendors, jobs, invoicing, bill payment, tax and billing terms, and budgeting. Users can create customizable balance sheets, profit and loss, and portfolio valuation reports, as well as charts. GnuCash imports QIF and OFX files with transaction matching; German users can use HBCI to download statements and initiate transfers and direct debits. Data is stored in XML by default. Support for SQLite3, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases is experimental, and some reported corner cases can cause data loss. The GNU GPL-licensed software has installation options for Linux and installers for macOS and Windows. The main application is unavailable for iOS and iPadOS, while the separate Android app appears abandoned according to the project FAQ. The project is maintained, documented, and translated by volunteers.
SoFi
SoFi brings banking, lending, investing, credit cards, insurance, crypto, and financial guidance into one platform. Its banking tools cover balance and transaction monitoring, alerts, bill pay, transfers, mobile check deposits, debit-card controls, and automated savings. SoFi Invest offers self-directed and robo investing, IRAs, stock and IPO investing, fractional shares, and ETFs. SoFi Relay links external accounts and helps members track credit scores and finances. SoFi Coach provides financial insights by chat 24-7, with a budget planner and retirement and investment goal tracking; it can connect accounts from more than 12,000 financial institutions. Members can transfer money and open checking and savings accounts through chat, but Coach does not recommend specific stocks or execute trades. Coach is free to members using SoFi banking, borrowing, or investing services. SoFi Plus costs $10 a month. Checking and Savings is listed at free, with no account, service, or maintenance fees and no minimum balance requirement. SoFi lists web and mobile access, and its official app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
