In their own words
Grist
Grist combines spreadsheet analysis with database-style organization for complex data work. It structures information relationally while supporting Python formulas and Excel-like spreadsheet functions. Pages can present tables, cards, forms, charts, calendars and custom widgets, and access rules can govern visibility or editing at the table, column and record level. A REST API supports programmatic reading and modification of documents, workspaces and team sites; integrations include Zapier, Integrately, Pabbly Connect, n8n and Make. Grist is available as a hosted service, a free open-source Community edition for self-hosting, and a desktop app that works without internet access or an online account. Documents are SQLite databases and can be exported as.grist files. Hosted Grist uses AWS infrastructure, HTTPS, encrypted storage and backups, and optional MFA, but has not undergone certification or auditing for SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA or GDPR compliance. The free plan allows up to 5,000 records per document; a 30-day trial is listed.
Stackby
Stackby is a cloud workspace that combines spreadsheet-style databases, AI agents, and automations for organizing and running team work. Databases offer more than 30 column types, including linked records, formulas, AI fields, checklists, and attachments. Teams can display information in grid, kanban, gallery, calendar, timeline, list, map, or dashboard layouts. Forms support more than 30 fields and conditional logic; the Apps Marketplace adds dashboards with charts, pivot tables, and other tools. Automations connect triggers and actions for tasks such as sending email, posting Slack notifications, or updating rows. Listed integrations include Slack, GitHub, Google Analytics, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Gemini, plus Zapier, Make, n8n, and Integrately. Stackby provides API access and lists Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows support. Its free plan is free, with five editors, 20 stacks, and 1,500 rows per stack among its limits. Pricing notes list paid plans from $4.20/user/mo annually and a 14-day trial; the Economy plan is $9 a month billed monthly per seat. When row or attachment limits are reached, users cannot add more until upgrading.
