Overview

Founded in 2010, IFTTT lets an event in one service trigger an action across two or more services. Its library covers more than 1,000 apps, services, and devices, with examples including Spotify, Evernote, Todoist, Google Sheets, Android, and Philips Hue. That range is useful for joining familiar tools, provided the services a reader needs are supported.

IFTTT describes itself as low-code, but coding is not required for basic use. App triggers and scheduled runs are supported. The model is best suited to connecting straightforward routines; the free allowance of two Applets is a meaningful ceiling for anyone who wants more than a small starter set.

Key features

Applet capacity and controls

Free permits two Applets, while Pro raises that to 20 and adds multi-action Applets, letting one trigger lead to several actions. Pro+ removes the Applet cap and adds queries, filter code, multiple connected accounts per service, and access to IFTTT's Platform. These upgrades make the service more capable for layered or advanced automations, but they also place the most flexible controls behind the highest-priced plan.

Mobile, privacy, and support

The iOS and Android apps include mobile-exclusive services, notifications, widgets, and geofencing automations. That gives IFTTT a practical role in routines involving a phone or location, beyond connecting web services. Most connected services use OAuth, which grants restricted access without sharing the account password with IFTTT. Users can export their data as JSON or delete their account in settings. Trigger checks, Applet runs, and errors are logged for seven days; activity-feed information is retained for 30 days.

Support scales with the plan: Free includes 30-day onboarding support, Pro includes customer support, and Pro+ prioritizes it. The Free support window is useful for getting started, but is narrower than the ongoing support included with paid subscriptions.

Pricing

IFTTT is freemium, with a seven-day trial and paid plans starting at $2.99/mo. The paid prices below are monthly equivalents billed annually, so the annual totals are relevant when comparing the actual commitment.

Plan	Price and billing	What it includes
Free	Free, billed forever	2 Applets, Standard Applet speeds, unlimited Applet runs, free mobile app access, and 30-day onboarding support.
Pro	2.99 USD per month; $35.88 billed annually	20 Applets, fastest Applet speeds, multi-action Applets, Webhooks, increased rate limits, and customer support.
Pro+	8.99 USD per month; $107.88 billed annually	Unlimited Applets, AI services, multiple connected accounts, queries and filter code, and prioritized customer support.

Free is the sensible choice for a couple of simple automations: Applet runs are unlimited, but the two-Applet cap and Standard speeds constrain the setup. Pro is aimed at people with multiple smart devices or multi-action needs; it is the lower-cost paid step, trading unlimited capacity and advanced query tools for a 20-Applet allowance. Pro+ is positioned for small business owners and users of advanced tools who need unlimited Applets or its additional controls. At 8.99 USD per month, billed $107.88 annually, it costs substantially more than Pro, so occasional users may not benefit from its extra capacity.

Platforms

IFTTT supports Android, iOS, web, and API access. The mobile apps add phone-specific services and features such as widgets and geofencing, while web and API support serve other connection needs.

Who it's for

IFTTT suits individuals who want to link everyday services, as well as people with smart devices who value phone-based triggers and multi-action routines. Pro fits users who have outgrown two Applets or need faster speeds and increased rate limits. Pro+ is more appropriate for small businesses and advanced users who need its unlimited Applets, account connections, queries, or filter code. It is less compelling for someone who only needs one or two simple automations, or whose workflow depends on advanced controls without the higher-tier subscription.

Pros and cons

Pros: A library of more than 1,000 apps, services, and devices gives users many potential connections.
Pros: Basic use requires no coding, and mobile-exclusive services, widgets, notifications, and geofencing extend automations to phones.
Pros: Free includes unlimited Applet runs and mobile app access, despite its two-Applet cap.
Cons: Two Applets on Free make it a limited home for users building several routines.
Cons: Multi-action Applets require Pro, while queries, filter code, and multiple connected accounts per service require Pro+.
Cons: Paid prices are shown as monthly rates billed annually, with $35.88 or $107.88 due annually for Pro and Pro+ respectively.

Alternatives

Make is worth considering for a reader whose priority is a free scenario-based setup: its free plan has no time limit and includes up to 1,000 credits per month, two active scenarios, and a 15-minute minimum interval. Bonita is an alternative with a free plan capped at 150 process instances per month and support for Linux, macOS, Windows, and self-hosting. Taskade AI Agents offers a different free package for up to two users, with 6,000 one-time credits, up to three apps, and one AI agent.

Pabbly Connect is another alternative. Albato has a free plan with 100 transactions, five active automations, and two steps per automation. Workato Agentic offers a free plan with 50,000 one-time credits. Pipefy is another option. Retool offers a free plan and a Team plan priced at 10.00 USD per month.

Verdict

Choose IFTTT for no-code connections among familiar apps and smart devices, especially when mobile triggers or a modest set of Applets will do the job. Its main advantage is breadth paired with accessible basic automation; its main reason to look elsewhere is the limited Free allowance and the cost of unlocking unlimited Applets and advanced controls.
