In their own words
Keeper
Keeper combines bookkeeping and tax filing, using AI and human accountants to identify potential tax savings and prepare returns. It scans linked financial transactions for possible deductions, which users can review, supplement with receipt photos, and organize with rules. Keeper offers federal and state filing, and says a tax professional reviews and signs every return. The 24/7 AI tax assistant provides tax help, while Premium includes one-on-one consultations with a tax professional. Standard costs $199 a year and includes 10 financial accounts; Premium costs $399 a year, and Business costs $1,199 a year. Bookkeeping Only costs $20 a month and tracks expenses but does not include filing. Standard includes federal and up to two state returns; Premium and Business cover three or more states. The 14-day trial does not permit exporting deductions or submitting a return for IRS filing. Keeper connects accounts through Plaid and says it does not have access to bank login information. It says it uses banking-grade encryption. Apps are available for Android, iOS, and web.
MileLog
MileLog is a mileage and expense tracker for US professionals, including freelancers, contractors, small businesses, and realtors. It detects drives and records them in the background, then lets users classify business and personal trips by swiping. The app generates IRS- and CRA-formatted mileage reports in PDF and CSV. Users can photograph receipts and record parking, fuel, and vehicle maintenance expenses linked to business trips; MileLog also tracks bridge tolls, highway passes, and toll road fees alongside mileage. It is available on Android, iOS, and the web. The Basic plan costs nothing, includes unlimited miles, and limits cloud trips to 15 per month. Premium costs $6.99 a month and adds advanced classification, IRS-ready reports, direct email reports, trip categorization, and 7x24 customer support. Unlimited tracking is available during a free 7-day trial, with cancellation available anytime. MileLog says it collects precise location data with permission and encrypts personal data in transit and at rest.
