Overview

PlanbookEdu combines lesson editing with schedule planning, standards tags, file attachments, and tools for sharing plans. Teachers can print from a browser or export plans to Word and PDF on Premium; administrators can manage teacher accounts centrally, review submitted plans, and comment. That breadth makes it more than a private planning notebook, though the school-facing review tools will matter less to teachers working independently.

The company says it began in 2004 and was built by a teacher and a developer. It describes the product as made for teachers and used across all 50 states and many countries. School accounts work with Google Workspace for Education single sign-on. The Help Center says support is available by email and usually responds the same school day.

Key features

Flexible schedules and standards

The Free plan allows unlimited weekly plans and supports A/B-day and rotation schedules, so teachers can plan a full year without a weekly-plan cap or forcing a nonstandard timetable into a conventional week. Its word-processor-style editing keeps the free tier focused on core planning. Calendar view adds another way to see the schedule.

Premium adds Common Core and state standards, as well as custom standards tagging. That is useful when lessons need to be associated with a framework or local requirements; teachers who do not need standards alignment can remain on Free.

Sharing, attachments, and review

Premium adds file attachments and sharing and collaboration. These are meaningful upgrades when lesson materials or plans need to move between colleagues, but they make the free tier less suitable for collaborative planning. School and district administrators can centrally manage teacher accounts, review submitted plans, and leave comments, supporting a review process without relying only on one teacher’s private planner.

Premium also includes search and spell check, plus browser printing and Word and PDF export. Export is useful when plans need to be submitted or kept in portable formats. The terms say each account is for the sole use of its individual subscriber and may not be shared, so team use should rely on the service’s sharing and school administration functions rather than shared logins.

Pricing

The Free plan is free, billed free forever. It includes unlimited weekly plans, A/B-day and rotation schedules, word-processor editing, and use on iPad and phone. It is a credible long-term option for individual teachers who need scheduling and lesson editing but can do without attachments, standards, collaboration, search, spell check, and file export.

Premium costs 30.00 USD per year, billed $30/year, and includes everything in Free plus attachments, Common Core and state standards, sharing and collaboration, print, Word and PDF export, search, and spell check. It is the better fit when plans must be aligned, shared, or submitted outside the planner. The trial lasts 14 days; the supplied plan terms do not state renewal conditions or a seat quota.

Platforms

PlanbookEdu is available on web, Android, and iOS. Its plan information also describes use on iPad and phone. Mobile access is identified as web-only, so this is not a choice for someone specifically seeking a dedicated native mobile planning experience.

Who it's for

Choose PlanbookEdu if you are a teacher who wants unlimited weekly planning and flexible schedules, or a school or district that needs centralized account management and plan review. Premium is most compelling for teachers who need standards tags, attachments, collaboration, or portable exports. It is less suitable if you need those capabilities at no cost, want a shared account, or require native mobile access.

Pros and cons

Pros

Unlimited weekly plans and A/B-day and rotation schedules in the permanent free plan suit year-round planning and varied timetables.
School and district administrators can manage accounts centrally, review submitted plans, and comment.
Premium supports standards tagging, collaboration, attachments, and Word and PDF export in one lesson-planning service.
Email support usually responds the same school day, according to the Help Center.
The privacy policy says the company will not rent or sell personally identifying information and limits service-provider access to those who need it and agree not to disclose it.

Cons

The free plan omits standards tagging, attachments, collaboration, and export, limiting its usefulness when plans must be coordinated or formally submitted.
Mobile access is web-only, which may disappoint users looking for a native app experience.
Accounts are restricted to the individual subscriber, so colleagues cannot simply share one login.
The website is available only to individuals at least 13 years old under the Terms of Service.

Alternatives

Lesson Planning Software is the broader category to browse if you want to compare planners before choosing one.

Choose LessonApp if you want a free Basic Licence centered on teaching methods, draft lessons, printing, and browsing and applying other users’ plans; it allows up to 10 draft lessons.
Consider Planbook for another freemium lesson-planning option with Android, iOS, and web platforms and individual and school/district plans.
Consider Common Planner if you prefer a web-based free basic plan that includes an AI-powered lesson assistant, daily, weekly, and monthly planning, and Google Classroom posting.
Consider Planboard for free digital lesson planning across Android, iOS, and web.
Consider SchEDU if you want a free plan capped at two lifetime lesson plans and two subjects, or a Pro plan priced at 4.99 USD per month.
Consider TeacherHero as another freemium web-based option with a free account.
Choose Daytical if you want a paid teacher plan at 12.00 USD per year that includes unlimited courses, students, and plans, plus a monthly pool of AI credits.
Consider Lesson Maker Pro if you want a free plan with monthly limits for generated lessons, unit plans, standalone materials, and Teaching Assistant messages.

Verdict

PlanbookEdu is a strong fit for teachers who want flexible, unlimited weekly planning at no cost, and for schools that need administrators to review plans centrally. Its main reason to choose Premium is the combination of standards, collaboration, attachments, and portable exports for 30.00 USD per year. Look elsewhere if native mobile access or free collaboration and export are essential.
