Overview

Brands can award points for purchases, referrals, reviews, account creation, birthdays and social follows, then offer free products, discount vouchers or free delivery in return. That range lets a store encourage more than spending, but it calls for a deliberate program: points for too many actions or rewards without a clear purpose can make the offer harder to manage.

VIP tiers add differentiated benefits intended to encourage customers to return, engage and spend more. Real-time access to loyalty data and buying behaviors gives teams a way to evaluate and refine a program. Together with referral programs, lifecycle automation and a customer portal, this makes LoyaltyLion more suitable for a brand actively managing customer loyalty than one seeking a basic discount tool.

Key features

Points and redemption: A choice of earning actions and rewards gives brands room to align incentives with their goals. The tradeoff is that each program needs clear rules about which customer actions merit points and what those points can buy.
VIP tiers: Tiered benefits help distinguish customer experiences and encourage continued engagement. They are most useful to stores with a reason to recognize different levels of customer activity.
Program analytics: Real-time loyalty and buying-behavior data can inform decisions about how a program performs and what to adjust.
Shopify ecosystem: LoyaltyLion describes support for Shopify, Shopify Plus and Shopify POS, and its integrations include Klaviyo, Attentive, Gorgias, Mailchimp, Dotdigital and HubSpot. Its Shopify focus is an advantage for stores in that ecosystem, but a poor fit for brands that need a broader commerce platform.
Customization and security: A Headless API supports customized loyalty experiences across channels. LoyaltyLion also states that it holds a SOC 2 Type I attestation covering security, processing integrity, availability, confidentiality and privacy.
Support: All plan levels can access the Support team; the pricing page also describes dedicated onboarding and fast live chat and email support. That support can help stores launch and maintain a program, including those starting on the free plan.

Pricing

LoyaltyLion uses a freemium model, with a free plan, a 14-day free trial through the Shopify Appstore and paid pricing from $199.00 USD per month. The trial offers a way to assess the product before committing; the free plan is aimed at stores processing 400 orders or fewer per month.

Free — 0.00 USD per free: Recommended for stores processing 400 orders or fewer per month. It gives smaller stores a no-cost starting point, but the order guidance makes it less suitable as a program grows.
Classic — 199.00 USD per month: Billed every 30 days and includes 500 orders per month. This is the clearest paid option for a store that needs to move beyond the free plan and can work within that allowance; stores exceeding it should weigh the threshold before choosing.
Advanced — custom pricing: Adds VIP tiers, Shopify POS across multiple locations and support for 130+ languages. It is the relevant step for multi-location merchants or brands needing broader language support, though the price requires a custom quote.
Plus — custom pricing: Includes AI-recommended campaigns, automated LoyaltyLion Flows and quarterly reviews on request. It is aimed at teams seeking more campaign automation and review, with custom pricing making cost comparison less straightforward.

Existing customers who exceed their contracted monthly order threshold by more than 25% over an average of three consecutive months may be contacted to discuss their plan or threshold. That makes order volume an ongoing budget consideration, not just a signup decision.

Platforms

LoyaltyLion supports web and API access. Its Shopify, Shopify Plus and Shopify POS support anchors it to Shopify stores; the Headless API offers a path to customize loyalty experiences across channels. It is not the natural choice for a business that needs a loyalty platform centered on other commerce systems.

Who it's for

Choose LoyaltyLion if you run a Shopify store and want to combine points, referrals, VIP benefits and customer data in a managed loyalty program. Smaller shops can begin on the free plan, while stores with higher order volumes or needs such as multiple POS locations, many languages or automated campaigns can consider paid tiers. It is less suited to stores that want a simple, low-cost program without an order threshold or that do not use Shopify.

Pros and cons

Pro: Points can reward purchases and several non-purchase activities, giving stores more ways to encourage engagement.
Pro: Real-time loyalty and buying-behavior data supports program evaluation, while integrations connect with named marketing and support platforms.
Pro: The free plan and 14-day trial lower the barrier to evaluating a Shopify-focused program.
Con: Classic is limited to 500 orders per month, and sustained overage beyond a contracted threshold can prompt a plan discussion.
Con: Advanced and Plus use custom pricing, so stores cannot compare their costs from a fixed monthly price.
Con: Shopify orientation limits its appeal to merchants using other commerce platforms.

Verdict

LoyaltyLion is a strong fit for Shopify merchants ready to manage a loyalty program spanning points, referrals, rewards and VIP tiers. Shopify support, program analytics and a free starting point make it a credible choice for that audience. Look elsewhere if you need non-Shopify coverage, a higher order allowance at a predictable price, or public pricing for advanced capabilities.
