In their own words

Marvel

Marvel is a design platform for creating wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and design specifications. From a browser, users can make website and app designs for different devices, then share interactive prototypes that demonstrate intended interactions without coding. Its Handoff tool generates downloadable assets and CSS, Swift, and Android XML code that stays synchronized with design changes.

Teams can organize projects in folders, create teams, and leave feedback through comments and annotations. Marvel lists integrations such as Sketch, Jira, Confluence, Dropbox Paper, and Microsoft Teams, as well as a GraphQL API for project data and design activity. Its mobile apps let users create, play, and share prototypes, with offline viewing and Sketch syncing. The free plan allows one user and one project; moving down to the free plan makes other projects inactive. Pro costs $12 a month, billed yearly, and a seven-day trial is listed. Marvel was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in London.

OpenPencil

OpenPencil is a free, open-source design editor compatible with Figma files and a toolkit for building custom editors. It opens and saves native .fig files and supports copy-paste between Figma and OpenPencil. Design features include vector drawing, rich text, flexbox and CSS Grid auto-layout, components, variables, and multi-page documents. Exports cover PNG, JPG, WEBP, SVG, and Tailwind JSX, with image scales from 0.5× to 4×. Its built-in AI assistant provides 90+ editing and analysis tools and can connect to Anthropic, OpenAI, Google AI, and OpenRouter. Users supply their own provider key; OpenPencil provides no subscription or backend for that AI feature. A CLI inspects, exports, and analyzes .fig files with machine-readable JSON output. Peer-to-peer WebRTC enables real-time collaboration without accounts. The local-first product requires no account or server, offers desktop binaries for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and runs on the web with a touch-optimized mobile PWA. The Vue SDK targets teams embedding focused canvases, workflow tools, template editors, or AI-assisted editing surfaces.
