Overview

Radar uses machine-learning models to block fraudulent payments, flag suspicious accounts and help prevent customer abuse in real time. Stripe says its AI is trained on more than 70 trillion data points across its network. That network scale is a meaningful foundation for payment screening, but Radar does not take responsibility away from the business: its terms place responsibility for using Radar data and making decisions based on it on the user.

For businesses already processing payments with Stripe, Radar runs in the background without additional setup. It covers supported payment methods beyond cards, including bank debits, buy now pay later options, crypto, digital wallets, real-time payments and cash vouchers. Stripe Connect is supported, and Connect accounts onboarded to a platform need no additional integration. Businesses using another payment service provider can obtain risk signals through APIs, but should distinguish that from the background protection offered for Stripe payments.

Key features

Controls scale with the plan

Lite focuses on card fraud prevention and card-testing alerts. Standard adds out-of-the-box fraud protection across payment methods and analytics. Plus and Pro include risk scores, custom rules and backtesting, manual reviews, risk preferences, adaptive 3D Secure and advanced fraud analytics. These tools give risk teams more ways to tune and inspect decisions, but they require a paid tier above Standard.

Pro adds bot, multi-account, account-sharing and pay-as-you-go abuse signals, plus free-trial abuse protection. Dynamic risk thresholds are exclusive to Pro, so businesses that need this control must choose the top standard tier or its platform equivalent. Radar also supports real-time scoring and device fingerprinting.

Platforms and integration

Radar is available on Android, iOS, web and API. The background setup is particularly useful for Stripe merchants who want screening within their existing payment flow; API risk signals extend its relevance to businesses processing transactions elsewhere.

Pricing

Radar is freemium. Lite is included at no additional charge for businesses on standard payments pricing, making it a sensible starting point for card fraud prevention and card-testing alerts. It gives up the broader payment-method protection and analytics of Standard, as well as the rules and abuse controls reserved for higher tiers.

Plan	Price	What it includes
Radar Lite	Free	Included at no additional charge for businesses on standard payments pricing; AI fraud prevention for card payments and card-testing alerts.
Radar Standard	10.00 USD per month	Starting at $10 per month; out-of-the-box fraud protection across all payment methods and analytics.
Radar Plus	14.00 USD per month	Starting at $14 per month; custom rules and backtesting, risk tolerance controls and advanced analytics.
Radar Pro	20.00 USD per month	Starting at $20 per month; multi-account, free-trial and bot abuse protection.
Radar Standard (platforms and marketplaces)	20.00 USD per month	Starting at $20 per month; transaction fraud protection and fraudulent account identification.
Radar Plus (platforms and marketplaces)	44.00 USD per month	Starting at $44 per month; custom rules and backtesting, reserves and advanced analytics.
Radar Pro (platforms and marketplaces)	70.00 USD per month	Starting at $70 per month; multi-account, free-trial and bot abuse protection.
Radar Enterprise	Custom pricing	Tailored recommendations, Radar risk signals and protection for payments not processed on Stripe; contact sales.

Standard is the lower-cost paid choice for businesses that need protection across payment methods but not custom controls. Plus suits teams that need to tailor rules and risk tolerance; Pro is the fit when account-abuse signals and free-trial protection matter. Platforms and marketplaces pay higher starting prices for the corresponding tiers, with fraudulent-account identification in Standard and reserves in Plus. Enterprise is the route for tailored needs and non-Stripe payment protection, at custom pricing.

Who it's for

Radar is a strong fit for Stripe merchants seeking fraud screening without a separate payment-flow setup, and for platforms, marketplaces and AI companies with broader account-abuse concerns. Its API risk signals may also suit businesses processing payments through other providers. It is less compelling for buyers who need extensive custom controls at the lowest tier, or who want a system to make risk decisions without retaining responsibility for how its data is used.

Pros and cons

Pros: Broad coverage across supported payment methods makes Radar relevant beyond card-only screening.
Pros: Stripe merchants can use it in the background without additional setup, and Connect platforms need no extra integration for onboarded accounts.
Pros: Plus and Pro add custom rules, backtesting and risk controls; Pro extends coverage to several forms of account abuse.
Cons: Lite is limited to card fraud prevention and card-testing alerts, while custom rules and risk scores require Plus or Pro.
Cons: Dynamic risk thresholds are Pro-only, and platform and marketplace tiers start at higher prices than the corresponding standard tiers.
Cons: Users retain responsibility for decisions based on Radar data, so the service does not replace internal risk ownership.

Alternatives

For a broader shortlist, see Payment Fraud Detection Software. FraudLabs Pro is worth considering if a free tier with 500 queries per month, five validation rules and standard support is a better fit. IPQualityScore Fraud Prevention may suit buyers who want a free allowance of 1,000 lookups per month, 35 per day and 10 custom rules. Choose Jube if an AGPLv3 open-source, self-hosted option with all features available is preferable.

MaxMind minFraud is a potential fit for buyers who prefer pay-as-you-go pricing with no commitment or minimums, alongside risk scores and custom rules. Ojuri may suit those seeking a free, MIT-licensed option without per-call fees or rate limits. Ravelin offers a customized platform tailored to business goals, risk appetite and setup. SAS Visual Statistics is an enterprise-scale statistical modeling option that runs on SAS Viya. Vesta is another paid alternative.

Verdict

Choose Stripe Radar if you process payments with Stripe and want broad fraud screening that can expand into custom controls and account-abuse prevention as needs grow. Its strongest case is the combination of payment coverage and a low-friction fit with Stripe; look elsewhere if you need advanced controls on a tighter budget or do not want your business to retain responsibility for decisions made using risk data.
