Overview

Partners can build programmes around plastic, virtual and digitised prepaid, debit, credit and business cards, using Visa or Mastercard. They can customise designs and configure rules, limits, controls, product hierarchies and pricing levels. That flexibility matters for a business serving different customer groups or use cases; it is less attractive to a small team looking for a ready-made, single-purpose card product.

Cards can link to dedicated IBAN accounts or integrate with an eWallet. Stated applications include consumer gift cards, e-commerce cards, government disbursements, payroll incentives, remittances, child and teen cards, cryptocurrency, freelancer payments and gaming.

Key features

Programme controls and APIs

Configurable limits and controls, multiple products and programme hierarchies let partners shape how different cards are issued and used. The API platform supports digital onboarding and data exchange for compliance, risk analysis and monitoring. A single REST API covers payment accounts, card issuing, transfers and onboarding, with a web Partner Portal; the developer portal also provides SDKs, sandbox tooling and live operational status. This is a useful foundation for a technical team building an integrated programme, though it calls for more implementation work than adopting an off-the-shelf card service.

Wallets and card security

Paynetics supports Apple Pay on iOS and an Android tokenisation solution based on Mastercard’s MDES protocol. Tokenisation substitutes dynamic components for sensitive card details in transactions, which Paynetics says helps protect transmitted information and reduce fraud in digital transfers. A PCI-compliant SDK supports secure card-data display without partners storing or processing sensitive data.

Physical-card delivery

The 1,000-card minimum and typical two-month manufacturing period are consequential launch constraints: they make physical issuance a poor fit for pilots or low-volume programmes. Paynetics is pre-integrated with AllPay for Europe and the UK and Borica for the Balkans, which may be relevant when planning manufacturing integrations in those regions.

Pricing

Card issuing: custom pricing. The programme includes customisable programmes, physical and virtual cards, Visa and Mastercard, an issuing API, spend controls, funding and balances, multi-program support and KYC/KYB tools. No lower-priced self-serve tier is described.

Platforms

Paynetics supports Android, iOS, web and API. Apple Pay is supported on iOS; Android tokenisation uses Paynetics’ solution based on Mastercard MDES.

Who it's for

This suits businesses and institutions building branded or embedded card programmes across multiple products, including the stated use cases of disbursements, payroll incentives, remittance, e-commerce, digital assets and freelancer payments. The breadth of card types and configurable controls is most useful when a programme needs distinct products or customer rules. The minimum physical order makes it a less practical choice for an early, small-volume physical-card launch.

Pros and cons

Pros: broad card choice across prepaid, debit, credit and business, with both physical and virtual formats.
Pros: configurable controls, hierarchies and product levels support programmes serving different customer groups.
Pros: API, SDK, sandbox and account or wallet connections give technical partners several integration paths.
Cons: physical cards require an order of at least 1,000 units and typically take around two months to manufacture.
Cons: pricing is custom, so a prospective partner cannot assess cost from a published plan price.

Alternatives

Consider Extend when an expense-card workflow with a free entry plan is a better fit: its Starter plan is free and caps usage at five users, ten guests and 100 virtual cards per month, with one expense category and 15 category labels. Choose Conferma Pay if you want to discuss its platform through a demo. Wallester White Label is worth comparing when published monthly white-label prices are useful: its plans cost 2495.00 EUR per month for non-financial institutions and 3995.00 EUR per month for financial institutions.

Marqeta is another paid API and web platform, with enterprise pricing handled through sales. Thredd is a paid API and web alternative. Visa DPS Forward offers a free API sandbox and production fees on contact. HPS PowerCARD is a paid option with API, web and self-hosted platforms, while Interlace is a paid API and web alternative. For broader comparisons, see Card Issuing Platforms and Banking-as-a-Service Platforms.

Verdict

Choose Paynetics if you are building a multi-product card programme and need configurable issuing, account or wallet connections and developer integration. Its strongest case is the breadth and flexibility of the issuing setup; the main reason to look elsewhere is the physical-card minimum and lead time, compounded by custom pricing that requires a sales conversation.
