Overview

Peñalara GHC is timetable-planning software for schools and other educational institutions. It suits schedulers managing complex teacher, room and student-group constraints who need both automated timetable generation and tools to revise the result. Its planning and day-to-day management capabilities are broad, but its single-user, non-networked paid license is a significant constraint for collaborative scheduling.

Key features

Planning and optimization

The planner imports academic data, handles strict requirements alongside flexible preferences, and can analyze conditions that make a timetable impossible. GHC Optimum searches for a balanced schedule using the criteria an institution sets. Support for teacher and room constraints and student-group scheduling makes it relevant to schools with interdependent requirements; the optimizer’s usefulness depends on how well staff define those priorities.

Editing, reports and exchange

After generation, the editor supports drag-and-drop changes, warns about possible conflicts and produces reports on assignments and preference compliance. That review step matters: an optimized result can still need human adjustment. GHC exchanges data in CSV, DBase, Paradox, XML, Excel and PDF formats. For XADE, export from GHC to the manager is possible, but only import in the other direction is guaranteed, so institutions should not assume a fully reciprocal workflow.

Daily timetable management

GHC App provides administrator, teacher and student profiles for publishing calendars, managing absences and substitutions, and producing reports. Access is through a browser and Android or iOS apps. This extends the product beyond timetable construction, although it does not remove the paid software’s single-user and non-networked licensing limits.

Pricing

The free options are limited in different ways. GHC Demo is free and lasts 15 days, covering 10 teachers and up to 3 computer activations; it is a time-limited way to assess the product. GHC Lite is free, has reduced functionality and allows up to 3 computer activations. It avoids a stated trial expiry, but gives up the full application.

Paid plans are annual subscriptions to the full application, with a teacher cap and up to 10 computer activations. They include technical support and maintenance updates with new functionalities for one year from subscription. The published tiers are:

Up to 10 teachers: 8300.00 USD per year; renewal USD 55,00.
Up to 15 teachers: 12000.00 USD per year; renewal USD 79,00.
Up to 20 teachers: 15700.00 USD per year; renewal USD 103,00.
Up to 25 teachers: 19400.00 USD per year; renewal USD 127,00.
Up to 30 teachers: 23100.00 USD per year; renewal USD 151,00.
Up to 35 teachers: 26800.00 USD per year; renewal USD 175,00.
Up to 40 teachers: 30500.00 USD per year; renewal USD 199,00.
Up to 45 teachers: 34200.00 USD per year; renewal USD 223,00.

The teacher cap determines which tier fits; every listed paid tier has the same activation ceiling. The renewal amounts are worth checking against the annual subscription price when budgeting ongoing use.

Platforms

The product is available on Android, iOS, web and Windows. The downloadable GHC program supports Windows 7 and later; Linux users can run the Windows program through PlayOnLinux or Wine. The GHC App’s browser and mobile access suits calendar users, while the main paid program remains local or uses an enabled cloud repository and cannot run over a network.

Who it's for

GHC is a strong fit for educational institutions that need to balance complex scheduling conditions, inspect conflicts and revise generated timetables before sharing them. Its App also supports administrators, teachers and students dealing with published calendars and daily absences or substitutions. It is a poorer fit when multiple schedulers need networked access to the paid planning software.

Pros and cons

Pros: The planner can analyze impossible conditions, helping staff refine constraints instead of simply returning an unusable schedule.
Pros: Drag-and-drop editing, conflict warnings and compliance reports provide a practical review path after optimization.
Pros: GHC App adds calendar publishing and absence and substitution management for administrator, teacher and student profiles.
Cons: Paid licensing is single-user and non-networked, limiting shared timetable-building workflows.
Cons: The free Demo expires after 15 days, while Lite has reduced functionality; neither is equivalent to the full paid application.
Cons: XADE exchange is asymmetric: only import from the manager to GHC is guaranteed.

Alternatives

For a wider comparison, see School Scheduling Software.

TimetableMaster is worth considering if broader platform coverage, including Linux, macOS and API access, matters; it offers a free trial but no free plan.
aSc Timetables may suit a buyer who wants an unlimited trial with no purchase required until after generating a schedule, though export is unavailable in that trial.
Untis is an option for institutions willing to request sales pricing for its WebUntis base package and modules.
UniTime is the alternative to consider for free, open-source software, with commercial support available for a fee.
SchoolGrid offers a free plan for one school with a 30-day scheduling and publishing evaluation; choose it if a web-only service fits the workflow.
FET is a free alternative for institutions seeking desktop software across Linux, macOS or Windows, with no stated usage limits.
GC Education Analytics K–12 Master Scheduler is a web-based free-beta alternative for elementary, middle and high schools.
Tes Timetable is another option for a web and Windows deployment.

Verdict

Choose Peñalara GHC if your institution needs constraint-aware timetable planning, optimization and a defined route from editing to daily calendar management. Its main advantage is that it brings those scheduling stages together; look elsewhere if several staff members must work together over a network on the paid planning software.
