In their own words
pixemboss
Pixemboss is a browser-based editor for turning 2D pixel art into low-poly 3D models for games. Its 2D workspace includes shapes, layers, frames, per-pixel depth, stamps and palettes; the voxel editor adds sculpting, voxel layers, baked ambient occlusion, emissive and metallic materials, and dynamic lights. Models can be rigged and animated, with animation clips exported in GLB. The editor exports 3D formats including GLB, FBX, OBJ, DAE, STL, VOX and glTF, as well as sprite sheets, PNG, GIF and WebM. One-click import kits are available for Godot and Unity, and the Godot guide describes a plugin with a live-link workflow. Per-pixel depth ranges from 1 to 8, while unpainted pixels add no geometry. Some export details matter: cone lights and fog are viewport-only, and emissive or metallic properties reach GLB only with Palette texture colour mode active and Unlit off. Rigged exports use one plain material, so those colours appear flat. Pixemboss is free in the browser and can be started without installing anything or creating an account.
Sproxel
Sproxel is a free, open-source 3D interface for making and editing voxel models, using cube-based forms as an extension of 2D pixel art. It can generate sprites for custom displays or game engines. Version 0.4 supports importing BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG and TIFF images into voxel grids, and exporting OBJ meshes as quads or triangles without internal polygons. Version 0.5 added grid resizing, draggable tools with previews, voxel outlines, camera snapping and a two-click Line tool. Version 0.6 added multi-sprite projects, a Python plug-in system, Paint3D (.3MP) import and export, slicing, and indexed-color grids with a 256-color palette. The maker describes it as developed on Windows and Linux using the QT windowing framework; the listed platforms are Windows, macOS and Linux. The download is described as a package that can be copied to a directory and run without installation. The package has no help file, and the maker points users to a manual. The version 0.6 release post said its download was win32 only at that time.
