PTC FMS
PTC FMS is a fleet management platform for UK commercial vehicle operators, combining vehicle, driver and asset compliance workflows. Its web Fleet Management module covers HGVs, PSVs, vans, trailers and other assets with maintenance planning, job scheduling, document storage and reminders. Twelve listed modules include tachograph analysis, licence checks, walkaround checks, training, workshop, tracking and PCN management. The Walkaround module uses DVSA-aligned questions, photo and video defect capture, workshop messaging and reports on late or missed checks. PTC Driver supports walkarounds, defect reporting, handbook sign-offs and training offline, then syncs when a signal returns. PTC Manager lets transport managers review checks, approve defects, plan training and view drivers, vehicles and depots. Both apps run on iOS and Android and are free for PTC FMS customers. Integrations include DVLA, DVSA Earned Recognition, Microlise, Samsara, Webfleet, Isotrak and Sage; Geotab data can sync through an API key. Pricing is per vehicle and module, billed monthly, with no setup fees or long contracts; no numeric price is listed.
Traccar
Traccar is GPS tracking software for monitoring devices through a self-hosted server or managed hosting. It shows device positions in real time on road maps or satellite imagery, alongside sensor readings and other tracker data. Alerts can flag geofence crossings, harsh driving, fuel drops, and maintenance events. Trip records, charts, summaries, and location history are available for review, with report export to Excel. Traccar works with trackers from manufacturers including Teltonika, Jimi IoT, Ruptela, Queclink, Suntech, and TopFlyTech across more than 200 protocols. Its server runs on Windows or Linux, on owned hardware or in the cloud. Android and iOS apps require a Traccar server; a separate client app can make a smartphone act as a tracker. The API supports service functions and live updates. The server is free and open source for private or commercial use. Managed plans are listed at $9.95 a month for a shared account and $49.95 a month for a dedicated server.
