Overview

Bill Pay can run without Ramp corporate cards or expense management, and vendors can receive payment without opening Ramp accounts. That makes it a practical option for teams seeking standalone AP rather than a commitment to Ramp’s wider finance suite. Ramp describes its AP product as serving small and fast-growing companies, mid-sized finance teams and multi-entity organizations.

Key features

Invoice processing and controls

OCR extracts invoice details and line items at a stated 99% accuracy, while configurable approval routing sends bills to the appropriate reviewers. Admins can limit who may view, approve or pay, supporting separation of duties; PO matching adds a check against purchase orders. Together these controls suit teams that need a more governed process than informal invoice approvals.

AP agents can auto-code invoices, flag suspicious vendor activity, recommend approvals and identify card-eligible invoices. These tools target repetitive coding and review work, though the clearest plan distinction is that Plus includes auto-coded line items and AI approval recommendations. Ramp says Bill Pay processes invoices and payments 2.4x faster than legacy software; that is a company claim, not a guarantee of the same result for every team.

Payments and accounting connections

Bill Pay supports ACH, same-day ACH, card, check, domestic wire and international wire payments. Accounting connections include QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Acumatica and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. Ramp also offers more than 200 integrations across categories including banking, HR and payroll, procurement and travel, plus custom CSV exports and an open API when a needed connection is unavailable. The breadth helps teams connect AP to existing systems, although the number of accounting integrations alone is not a measure of how well any one setup fits.

Multi-entity support and 1099 tools for W-9 collection, tax-box mapping and direct IRS and eligible-state filing extend the product beyond invoice payment. Users can also complete expenses and ask policy questions via SMS or Slack. Ramp lists chat, email, phone, help-center, AI, priority and custom support channels; its pricing page specifies 24/7 chat for Free and 24/7 phone support for Plus and Enterprise.

Pricing

Free costs 0.00 USD per free, billed monthly. It includes core AP features, automated invoice extraction, configurable approvals and payments by ACH, card, check and wire, with no monthly software fee. This is the sensible entry point for smaller teams that want core Bill Pay without a recurring software charge. It does not remove transaction charges: standard ACH costs $0.59, checks $1.99, same-day ACH $10, domestic wires $15 and SWIFT USD wires $20. Overnight check delivery costs $20 per transaction, and check attachments cost $1 per page.

Plus costs 15.00 USD per month, billed at $15/mo/user plus a platform fee based on team size. Annual billing saves 20%, and a free 30-day trial is available; users can switch plans anytime. It adds auto-coded line items, AI approval recommendations, automated batch payments and payment release approvals. Plus is aimed at teams ready to pay for more automation, but the user charge and separate platform fee mean the headline per-user rate is not the whole subscription cost.

Enterprise has custom pricing with annual billing. It is built for teams seeking customization and includes Workday and Oracle Fusion integrations, local-currency card issuing in 30+ countries, a dedicated account manager, priority 24/7 global support and custom implementation. This is the tier for organizations whose needs reach beyond the listed Free and Plus capabilities; its annual term and custom price call for a different buying process.

Platforms

Ramp lists Android, iOS, web, API and extension support. It has mobile apps for iOS and Android but no native Mac or Windows desktop app, so desktop users work through the web. The API and extension options broaden connectivity, while the lack of a native desktop app may matter to teams that prefer installed desktop software.

Who it's for

Ramp AP is a good fit for small or growing businesses moving from manual bill handling, and for finance teams that need approval controls, PO matching or multi-entity support. It also suits teams that want AP on its own rather than adopting Ramp cards and expense management. Organizations with high payment volume should calculate transaction charges alongside subscription costs; teams needing deep customization or the Enterprise integrations may be better served by the custom-priced tier.

Pros and cons

Pros: The free tier includes invoice capture, approvals and multiple payment methods without a monthly software fee, making it possible to start with core AP before committing to Plus.
Pros: Role-based routing, separation-of-duty controls, PO matching and multi-entity support address process needs that become more important as finance operations grow.
Pros: Standalone operation and vendor payments without vendor Ramp accounts avoid requiring adoption of the wider Ramp suite.
Cons: Payment fees apply even on the free tier, and expedited or international methods can carry notable per-transaction charges.
Cons: Plus adds a platform fee based on team size on top of its per-user price, complicating cost estimates for larger teams.
Cons: There is no native Mac or Windows desktop app, and Enterprise requires custom pricing with annual billing.

Alternatives

BILL Accounts Payable is worth considering if a paid service with a free trial and an Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable subscription better matches the buying brief; its Essentials plan is 49.00 USD per month, billed monthly. Melio may fit a one-user operation: its free Go plan is limited to one user and includes five free ACH payments per month, then charges $0.50 per ACH, while also supporting wire, check and card payments.

Nanonets Accounts Payable Automation offers a Starter plan for up to three users and a Starter paid-usage option at 100.00 USD per month for 100 credits, which may suit buyers comparing user and usage-based entry points. OpenEnvoy is another freemium AP option, with a free tier of 800 tokens and an Essentials plan with no annual minimum.

Flowie may suit teams handling modest document volumes: its free plan covers up to 24 documents per month (300 per year), one entity and basic processing, but has no workflows. Hyland AP Automation is an alternative for buyers considering enterprise AP automation; its price is custom.

Relay Bill Pay may appeal to teams that want a free tier with 20 checking accounts or a $30/month Grow plan. SAP Concur Invoice is a paid, quote-based alternative for buyers prepared to request subscription pricing.

Verdict

Ramp AP is a strong choice for growing finance teams that want invoice capture, configurable approvals and vendor payments in a standalone workflow, with a free tier and a path to added automation. Choose it when its controls and integrations fit your process; look elsewhere if transaction fees or Plus’s additional platform charge outweigh those benefits, or if a native desktop app is essential.
