Overview

Resgrid brings computer-aided dispatch together with personnel and unit management, scheduling, mapping, messaging, training, and workflow automation. Dispatchers can create, assign, track, and close calls, with notifications and reporting built around that lifecycle. Calendar scheduling and live location tracking extend coordination into the field; the combination is more useful to operational teams than a dispatch-only tool, though it also means organizations should weigh the scope against their actual needs.

Five role-focused apps—Responder, Unit, IC, Dispatch, and BigBoard—are offered for iOS, Android, and web. The platform is open source and can run on customer servers, an important option for organizations that prefer to control hosting. Hosted Resgrid is updated weekly, and the site provides a knowledge center and support-ticket submission.

Key features

Workflow connections and vehicle location

The workflow engine can notify through email, SMS, Slack, Teams, or Discord, call REST APIs or webhooks, and upload files to several storage services. Native support for Teltonika, Queclink, and Jimi/Concox vehicle GPS trackers, plus a Traccar integration path, gives teams named routes for bringing vehicle location into operations. This is a practical strength for organizations already using those devices or services; the free plan, however, has no SMS.

Security and HIPAA conditions

Client and API communications use 256-bit TLS, while stored data is encrypted with AES-256. Resgrid requires its Advanced Data Protection add-on before signing a HIPAA Business Associate Agreement; the add-on alone does not make an organization HIPAA compliant. Resgrid says it is working toward SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 reports and strengthening HIPAA readiness, so organizations with compliance obligations should evaluate those conditions carefully rather than treating the encryption claims as a compliance guarantee.

Pricing

Resgrid uses a freemium model. The Free plan costs 0.00 USD per free and supports up to 10 entities, with push notifications and email but no SMS. It is limited to North American customers on the US-West data center, making it a constrained starting point rather than a broadly available free deployment.

Plan	Price	What it adds and who it suits
Push-To-Talk Addon	35.00 USD per month, billed per 10-user pack monthly	Two-way IP voice, up to 50 channels, on Android, iOS, and web. A fit for teams that need voice channels; the per-pack billing makes user count relevant.
Enhanced AI	95.00 USD per month, billed per department monthly	Requires a paid plan; adds private AI answers and drafts with a monthly usage budget and no overage charges. It is an optional department-level addition, not a standalone entry plan.
Readiness Pro	150.00 USD per month, billed per department, including on an annual plan	Adds preventive maintenance scheduling, work orders, and parts, labor, and vendor cost tracking. It suits departments that need asset-readiness and maintenance workflows.
Business Ops	250.00 USD per month, billed per department, including on an annual plan	Adds invoicing, contractor billing, cost recovery, and online payments through the organization’s Stripe account. It is aimed at departments that need financial workflows alongside operations.
Advanced Data Protection	1950.00 USD per year, billed per department yearly	Adds field-level encryption for PHI and PII, per-department keys, and step-up MFA; required for Resgrid to sign a HIPAA BAA. The annual per-department cost is a significant commitment, and it does not itself establish HIPAA compliance.

The free plan’s entity, geography, and messaging limits are material trade-offs; teams outside its service region or needing SMS must look beyond it. Paid add-ons are priced around users or departments, so total cost depends on the size and structure of the operation. Custom pricing applies where no plan price is given.

Platforms

Resgrid supports Android, iOS, web, Windows, Linux, and macOS, as well as API access and self-hosted deployment. That range gives organizations choices across mobile field work, desktop access, integrations, and customer-managed hosting.

Who it's for

Resgrid is a strong candidate for public-safety and operational teams that coordinate people, units, vehicles, and calls in one workflow, particularly when role-specific apps, GPS integrations, or self-hosting matter. It is less suitable for teams seeking an unrestricted free service, organizations outside North America that need the free tier, or buyers expecting the Advanced Data Protection add-on alone to satisfy compliance requirements.

Pros and cons

Pros: Dispatch, resource management, scheduling, mapping, messaging, training, and automation share one platform, reducing the need to split core coordination across separate tools.
Pros: Five role-focused apps and named GPS hardware support provide concrete options for field and vehicle workflows.
Pros: Open-source code and customer-hosted deployment give organizations a hosting choice beyond the hosted service.
Cons: The free tier is capped at 10 entities, restricted to North America on US-West, and excludes SMS, limiting its use for larger or geographically distant teams.
Cons: The 1950.00 USD per year, per-department Advanced Data Protection add-on is required for a HIPAA BAA, and the add-on is not itself a compliance guarantee.
Cons: Several add-ons are billed per department or user pack, so an organization’s operating structure affects what the listed monthly prices mean in total.

Alternatives

For dispatch and delivery businesses, Onro offers a free demo plan with unlimited orders, users, and drivers, alongside Android, iOS, web, and API platforms; choose it when those delivery-oriented limits and platforms are a better fit than Resgrid’s entity-capped operations model. Fieldified has a free plan with scheduling, invoicing, CRM, and reporting, plus a 49.00 USD per month Basic plan billed for five users; it is worth considering when those business functions are the priority. Super Dispatch offers a free Carrier TMS Lite plan with a driver app, limited carrier dashboard, and loadboard, but no advanced reporting or automated invoicing; choose it when carrier transport management is the narrower need.

Odyssee Field Service has a paid Essential plan at 35.00 EUR per month per user, with a minimum of three users, and is an option for businesses seeking field-service software on Android, iOS, web, or Windows. Shipday provides a free Basic plan for up to 300 orders per month and 10 driver accounts, making it an alternative for smaller delivery operations. TaxiMobility is a paid option with a Professional plan at 14.00 USD per month per driver plus white-label cost, capped at 50 drivers; its driver and customer apps cost extra. Haul-IT is another paid alternative for Android, iOS, and Windows.

Dispatch offers a Pro plan at 139.00 USD per month for suggested teams of one to 10 users, with unlimited jobs and appointments, and a Plus plan at 267.00 USD per month for suggested teams of 10 to 20; choose it when those job and appointment terms better match your operation. Browse Dispatch Software or Dispatch Management Software for more options in those categories.

Verdict

Choose Resgrid if your organization needs dispatch, field coordination, and operational workflows in one open-source platform, especially when self-hosting or its role apps and GPS integrations matter. Its main drawback is the divide between a geographically restricted, entity-capped free tier and paid department-level add-ons, with a steep annual cost for the HIPAA BAA prerequisite. Teams needing unrestricted free access or a simpler, narrower dispatch tool should look elsewhere.
