Overview

SpotOn brings point of sale, online ordering, reservations, labor management, and reporting into a cloud-based system. Its service options span casual and fine dining, breweries, quick service, fast casual, cafes, and bakeries. That breadth can suit restaurants coordinating several parts of daily operations in one product; it is less attractive to operators who want to use their own tablets or freely connect custom software.

Key features

The POS includes table layouts, menu management, ordering, payments, reporting, and employee tools. Reservation booking, table management, and staff scheduling extend its use beyond taking orders, making it relevant to restaurants that want service and staff workflows under one roof.

SpotOn Order provides commission-free online ordering connected to the POS and GoTo Place app. DoorDash and Uber Eats connect directly, while other delivery platforms can be supported through Deliverect. The management dashboard adds an AI menu assistant, dynamic reporting, marketing campaigns, remote management, and multi-location tools. These capabilities give operators several ways to manage activity beyond the restaurant floor, though the system does not offer an open API: integrations are limited to selected providers.

SpotOn says offline mode keeps stations and devices connected and sends orders to the kitchen during an internet outage, then syncs offline payments once connectivity returns. That is a meaningful safeguard for service continuity. Dashboard access works in a browser on any device, and the dashboard app is described as mobile-friendly. SpotOn includes 24/7/365 technical support from real people at no extra cost. Its security specifications for the Handheld device include PCI PTS v7 and end-to-end encryption.

Pricing

The All-In Plan is shown at no cost, but processing minimums apply and the plan has a 2-year minimum term. It includes POS software and hardware, ordering, payments, table layouts, menu management, and reporting. The zero price does not mean a no-commitment free plan: the processing minimums and contract term matter for any operator comparing upfront costs.

Core Bundle costs 50.00 USD per month per location, plus 20bps of GPV capped at $200. It includes Profit Assist, SpotOn Order, the GoTo Place app, Marketing Assist, and software integrations. It is the fit for operators who want those bundled tools and can account for the additional GPV charge. SpotOn says it does not charge a blanket fee for third-party integrations, but third-party software fees apply; customers who opt out of Core Bundle pay a small monthly marketplace access fee.

POS Essentials costs 55.00 USD per station per month. Station 15 hardware costs $750 each and Handheld costs $297 each, with implementation costs additional. Card-present processing is 2.45% + $0.15, except Amex at 3.19% + $0.15; keyed transactions are 3.45% + $0.15. This plan may suit restaurants that want a straightforward station-based POS, but hardware, implementation, and transaction charges make the monthly software price only part of the cost.

Build Your Own has custom pricing for multi-unit, enterprise, and other high-volume operations, with custom processing rates and additional implementation costs. It is the relevant route for larger operators who need tailored terms. Restaurant customers cannot use their own POS hardware or tablets, so every plan requires accepting SpotOn’s proprietary hardware approach.

Platforms

SpotOn Restaurant is available on Android, iOS, and the web. The browser dashboard can be accessed from any device, which is useful for managers who need remote access without being tied to a single workstation.

Who it's for

SpotOn is a strong candidate for restaurants that want POS, ordering, delivery connections, reservations, and management tools in a connected system, especially across multiple locations or varied service styles. It is a poorer fit for businesses that need open-API flexibility, want to reuse existing tablets, or prefer to minimize implementation and processing costs.

Pros and cons

Pros: Offline ordering and later payment syncing can help keep service moving during an internet outage.
Pros: POS, online ordering, reservation, labor, and management features cover both front-of-house and operational needs.
Pros: 24/7/365 human technical support is included at no extra cost.
Cons: Proprietary hardware prevents restaurants from using their own POS hardware or tablets.
Cons: The closed API limits integrations to selected software providers, and third-party software can add costs.
Cons: Hardware and implementation charges, plus processing fees, can materially raise the cost beyond the software subscription.

Alternatives

For operators whose main priority is workforce scheduling, 7shifts offers a free Comp plan for up to 15 employees at one location; Essentials supports up to 30 employees and unlimited locations at custom pricing. For reservation-focused restaurants, Eat App has a free plan capped at 100 guests monthly and a Lite plan at 99.00 USD per month with unlimited guests. UrbanPiper is a paid alternative with a Hub plan at 79.00 GBP per month, unlimited orders, no per-order charges, and no one-time setup fee.

GloriaFood is worth comparing for restaurants seeking free online ordering: its free service plan allows unlimited orders and locations with no commission or monthly fee. HungerRush may suit a qualifying single-location restaurant that needs a free starter plan for one POS terminal. Sapaad is a paid alternative with a 99.00 USD per month Essentials plan, billed once every 24 months, for a single outlet and up to 10,000 customers. Hostme is another paid option to consider when its reservation-oriented plans are a better match.

Lightspeed Restaurant is an alternative for restaurants that want a customizable POS with a menu manager, floor plans, Advanced Insights, offline mode, and 24/7 support; its Starter plan costs 69.00 USD per month.

Compare SpotOn with other restaurant management software and restaurant POS software. Restaurants focused on menu planning, table coordination, or mobile service can also browse restaurant menu engineering software, restaurant table management software, and food truck POS software. The salon loyalty software category is a less direct comparison for restaurant operators.

Verdict

SpotOn Restaurant is best for operators who want POS, ordering, offline service continuity, and management tools within one restaurant-focused system. Its strongest reason to choose it is that operational breadth, backed by included round-the-clock human support. Look elsewhere if you need an open API, want to bring your own hardware, or need a cost structure with fewer hardware, implementation, and processing charges.
