In their own words
CloseZero
CloseZero is an AI accounting service for scaling startups, available through web and API. It brings multiple entities and currencies into one ledger, with source documents linked to entries. Its AI categorizes transactions, matches them to documents, and reconciles them against bank statement lines for review. It can extract vendor, amount, date, and tax details from receipts and supplier invoices, attaching the original file as evidence. The service describes a Stripe connection using a restricted key, lists Brex, Wise, Revolut, and HSBC, and accepts CSV or PDF bank statement imports. P&L, balance sheet, cash, burn, and runway reports update as entries arrive. Investor rooms offer scoped read-only access or point-in-time PDF packs, and access can be revoked. Accountants can work in the ledger and auditors can receive read-only seats; CloseZero says it does not replace either professional. The free plan costs nothing and has no time limit or card requirement below $10,000 MRR or $100,000 raised. Documents can be downloaded and a read API is available, but one-click export of the entire ledger is still to be built.
Digits
Digits is a cloud general ledger for business owners and accountants, combining automated books, month-end close, bill pay, invoicing, and real-time financials. Its AI bookkeeping categorizes transactions, flags items, and provides smart reviews around the clock. The platform supports cash and accrual accounting, journal entry and reconciliation automation, close task management, multi-entity support, and an audit trail. Digits Connect links with more than 12,000 financial institutions, and native integrations include Mercury, Ramp, Gusto, BILL, Stripe, Arc, Ignition, Karbon, and Reach Reporting. Bill Pay uses OCR to extract invoice details and supports vendor payments by ACH or check. A Developer API and MCP server can connect the ledger to tools such as ChatGPT and Claude. Digits offers web and API access plus native iPhone and iPad apps. It states that it is SOC 2 Type II compliant and uses revocable API tokens, TLS, and per-secret authenticated envelope encryption. The service is currently limited to U.S.-based businesses using U.S. financial institutions and supports USD only. Essentials costs $65 a month, and a 30-day trial is available.
