Traccar vs VAPTA

Traccar is GPS tracking software for monitoring devices through a self-hosted server or managed hosting. It shows device positions in real time on road maps or satellite imagery, alongside sensor readings and other tracker data. Alerts can flag geofence crossings, harsh driving, fuel drops, and maintenance events. Trip records, charts, summaries, and location history are available for review, with report export to Excel. Traccar works with trackers from manufacturers including Teltonika, Jimi IoT, Ruptela, Queclink, Suntech, and TopFlyTech across more than 200 protocols. Its server runs on Windows or Linux, on owned hardware or in the cloud. Android and iOS apps require a Traccar server; a separate client app can make a smartphone act as a tracker. The API supports service functions and live updates. The server is free and open source for private or commercial use. Managed plans are listed at $9.95 a month for a shared account and $49.95 a month for a dedicated server.

VAPTA brings fleet maintenance, inspections, workshop work, procurement, telematics, tachograph tools and driver compliance into one platform. Fleet features cover vehicle records, maintenance schedules, compliance, VOR control, hire and leasing, operational data and costs. Workshop tools handle job scheduling, digital job cards, labour and parts tracking, quotes, approvals, invoices and KPI reporting. The driver walkaround app records defects against vehicles and personnel and supports multiple photo uploads. Digital PMI inspections are described as DVSA approved and cover HGV, LGV, trailers, PCV, LOLER and PUWER. Telematics includes live tracking, driver behaviour measures, geofence alerts, driver ID, optional remote immobilisation, CAN diagnostics and remote tachograph downloads. Tachograph tools schedule.ddd downloads, analyse files and infringements, report driving and working time, and archive data for at least three years. VAPTA is available on Android, iOS, web and Windows. Fleet + Workshop costs £5 per vehicle per month; a free trial can be arranged, with no stated duration. Training and onboarding are included.
