In their own words
When I Work
When I Work brings employee scheduling, shift swaps, team messaging, and time tracking together for shift-based workplaces. Auto scheduling assigns shifts using staff availability and qualifications, and managers can oversee multiple stores, departments, or job sites from one dashboard. The time clock tracks attendance, breaks, and time off, while staff can message without sharing phone numbers. It runs on the web, Android, and iOS. Essentials costs $2.50 a month billed per user per month; Pro is $5 a month billed per user per month; Premium is $8 a month billed per user per month. A 14-day trial offers complete access and requires no credit card, but there is no free plan. API key access, webhooks, and SAML/SSO are included in Premium. When I Work says it uses AWS, TLS, daily backups, multiple-disk writes, and mobile two-step verification. It does not offer an SLA, although its hosting partners guarantee 99.9% uptime.
Zoho Bookings
Zoho Bookings schedules appointments and other event types, including one-on-one, group, collective, and resource-based bookings. It provides booking pages, payment collection, round-robin scheduling, automated reminders, and two-way synchronization with Google and Outlook calendars. Teams can be managed with roles and permissions, while workspaces organize event types by location or department. Custom workflows can automate email and SMS communication, CRM updates, and invoice creation. Payments can be collected through Stripe, PayPal, Razorpay, and other major providers. Browser access and mobile apps for iOS and Android are available. The forever-free plan is for one user and includes one event type and workspace, online meetings, reminders, and two-way calendar sync. Paid plans start at $6 per user per month with annual billing, and the premium trial lasts 15 days without requiring card details. Zoho says plans can be canceled at any time without penalties or further charges and states that Bookings is GDPR compliant.
