Alternatives to Notability

{"intro": "Notability brings handwriting, typed text, recordings, images, and imported documents together, with offline access, sharing, and real-time collaboration. Its study features include audio transcription, summaries, Smart Notes, quizzes, flashcards, chat with notes, and YouTube transcripts with summaries. Integrations include iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and WebDAV, and it runs on Android, iOS, macOS, web, and Windows.\n\nReaders may look elsewhere because Starter permits five notes, Pro costs $19.99 a month, Business Pro costs $180 a year per user, and several plans have no price listed. iOS and iPadOS require version 17 or later, while Android requires version 12 or later. Switching means weighing each alternative's platform coverage, offline behavior, collaboration, storage, integrations, task or calendar tools, knowledge-management structure, and price against Notability's mixed-media notes and study workflow.", "rows": [{"ref": "sw:notesnook", "name": "Notesnook", "best_for": "Cross-platform notes with Linux and automation integrations", "pricing": "Free plan · paid from $1.67/mo (annual) · 14-day trial", "key_difference": "Notesnook adds Linux support and Zapier, IFTTT, and Gmail integrations, while offering 0.05 storage.", "choose_when": "Choose it for Linux access, a lower annual starting price, or its automation and Gmail connections."}, {"ref": "sw:amplenote", "name": "Amplenote", "best_for": "Notes, tasks, and calendars in one workspace", "pricing": "Free plan · 15-day trial", "key_difference": "Amplenote combines notes, tasks, and calendar scheduling, with calendar syncing on Pro or higher.", "choose_when": "Choose it when task planning, long-term goals, and connected Google, Outlook, or Apple calendars matter most."}, {"ref": "sw:siyuan", "name": "SiYuan", "best_for": "Privacy-focused, linked personal knowledge management", "pricing": "Free plan · paid from $64", "key_difference": "SiYuan uses block editing, bidirectional links, Markdown, and self-hosting, including documents with millions of words.", "choose_when": "Choose it for structured personal knowledge management, local hosting options, or block-level references."}, {"ref": "sw:workflowy", "name": "Workflowy", "best_for": "Outline-based notes across many platforms", "pricing": "Free plan · paid from $6.99/mo (annual) · 7-day trial", "key_difference": "Workflowy offers an outline-centered workspace with Readwise, Kindle Highlights, calendar, web-clipping, and MCP integrations.", "choose_when": "Choose it for nested outlines, broad desktop and mobile coverage, or its reading and automation connections."}, {"ref": "sw:twos", "name": "Twos", "best_for": "Daily lists, reminders, and connected messages", "pricing": "Free plan · paid from $4.99/mo · 7-day trial", "key_difference": "Twos combines notes, to-dos, reminders, events, lists, and links, with Today rollover, search, and chat.", "choose_when": "Choose it when daily organization and connections to calendars, messaging, reading services, or collaboration tools outweigh study features."}, {"ref": "sw:goodnotes", "name": "Goodnotes", "best_for": "Collaborative notes with a lower annual starting price", "pricing": "Free plan · paid from $11.99/user/yr · 7-day trial", "key_difference": "Goodnotes matches Notability's core platforms, offline access, sharing, and collaboration, with storage listed as 5.", "choose_when": "Choose it for a lower annual entry price while keeping broad platform coverage and real-time collaboration."}, {"ref": "sw:notion", "name": "Notion", "best_for": "Collaborative workspaces with team integrations", "pricing": "Free plan · Plus $10/member/month · Business $20/member/month", "key_difference": "Notion offers Slack, Figma, GitHub, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams integrations plus a Chrome extension.", "choose_when": "Choose it for team collaboration and those work integrations rather than Notability's audio, study, and YouTube tools."}]}
