What it is
KSCrash is a free, MIT-licensed open-source crash reporting framework for iOS and macOS. After installation, it stores reports on disk and captures Mach exceptions, signals, C++ and Objective-C exceptions, main-thread hangs, and operating-system terminations including out-of-memory, thermal, CPU, and reboot events. Reports use Apple’s format. Installation is documented through Swift Package Manager or CocoaPods. The Watchdog monitor detects main-thread hangs lasting 250 milliseconds or longer and records full backtraces. CPU monitoring follows sliding-window averages and can optionally create non-fatal reports when warning or critical transitions occur. Additional capabilities include a sampling profiler, zombie detection, memory tracking, automatic crash-cause diagnosis, and custom exception reporting. MetricKit integration processes MXCrashDiagnostic payloads, but hang and CPU exception diagnostics are not supported there. Server delivery requires a KSCrash installation. Reports may contain sensitive information, so review them before transmission and use HTTPS endpoints. Version 2.x is supported; 1.x is unsupported.

Strong points and limits
Strong points
- Free MIT-licensed framework
- Captures many Apple crash types
- Hang detection with full backtraces
- Apple-format reports stored on disk
- Sampling profiler and memory tracking
Limits
- Only iOS and macOS platforms listed
- MetricKit lacks hang and CPU diagnostics
- Reports may contain sensitive information
- Version 1.x is unsupported
Who it suits
KSCrash suits Apple-platform developers who need local crash, hang, exception, and resource diagnostics. It fits teams comfortable integrating an open-source framework through Swift Package Manager or CocoaPods.
Verdict
KSCrash offers broad native crash and hang capture with several diagnostic tools for Apple applications. Plan report review and secure HTTPS delivery, and account for the MetricKit limitations.
